What's wrong with it?

ShatnersBassoon · 10/01/2018 21:51

Yeah complain. I have no idea what's up here, but tuna is always worth complaining about. It stinks.

I've never got pink tuna it's always an unappetising grey.

CuriousVole · 10/01/2018 22:11

Obviously my battery went at the crucial point

That’s disgusting Envy

CuriousVole · 10/01/2018 22:13

2 different tins from the same batch. Is it just me?

I should maybe put something in the title as a warning! But I’m pregnant and have a bit of anxiety anyway and careful with food so to see this I was like.... no.

That looks like tuna to me. Think perhaps the no drain stuff looks a bit different.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 10/01/2018 22:19

Maybe it's the plate. Try it on a white plate.

ScreamingValenta · 10/01/2018 22:19

Does it have a stronger smell than normal, OP?

SilverySurfer · 10/01/2018 22:20

Looks like tuna. Not sure I understand the problem.

BertieBotts · 10/01/2018 22:20

It looks normal to me too. It's just different parts of the fish, like chicken meat can sometimes be totally white and other parts are browner.

BertieBotts · 10/01/2018 22:21

Agree the no drain stuff tends to be dry which can make it a bit unappetising.

ToadOfSadness · 10/01/2018 22:21

That does look disgusting.

I have noticed that tuna is a lot pinker than it used to be.

However recently bought some of the small tins, I think it was also the no drain stuff, and it was revolting, looked manky, rotten and smelled bad. Still have the other 2 tins and am carefully avoiding opening them as it was edible, but not by me.

CuriousVole · 10/01/2018 22:21

Yeah I tried on a white plate still looked grim haha might just be me though?

It’s reassuring that this looks normal to people though, it’s pribably because I’ve not had this one before

I know the whittards 90s look plates don’t help haha they are a whole other AIBU

There definitely should have a government health warning. Not even sure if mayonnaise would help this look tasty

CuriousVole · 10/01/2018 22:43

Well because it wasn’t what I was used to I thought it might have said on the tin “may have some discolouration” or something? I’m probably overthinking this!

Ansumpasty · 10/01/2018 22:45

I always buy that brand or the Sainsbury's own and it always looks like that. It seems to be the fish around the edges that touches the can that's darker with a bit of a gross taste. Yum Confused

Weedsnseeds1 · 10/01/2018 22:47

I think there's a degree of drying on the outside. Because it's no drain the fish isn't completely covered in oil like a normal can, so the outside is brown and the inside pink. It's not oxidation as such, because it's packed in a vacuum, so no oxygen, but heat distribution in the retort will be less even, so outside is excessively heat treated.

FluffyWuffy100 · 10/01/2018 23:24

I think that is because of the 'no-drain'. I went back to getting stuff in spring water because the no drain stuff looked funny.

CuriousVole · 10/01/2018 23:26

Thanks, this does make sense. Yeah I think I will stick to what I know, you can taste with your eyes sometimes haha
