Is this a bleeding mole? Bit gross.

DP noticed earlier that my head was bleeding a lot, I've had no bump/scratch/anything. He's trying to clean it up but it's bleeding a lot. He thinks he can see a mole but isn't 100%, anyone got any ideas? This is the clearest, least bloody picture we could get! I can't see it, only have a picture for reference.

I have no idea what it is but I strongly recommend that you get yourself to the GP to get it checked out as soon as possible.

I am in no way medically connected but have you considered maybe a tic? They can look a lot like moles? I don’t know if they can bleed like that though

Sallystyle · 10/01/2018 20:45

Yes, no idea what it is either. Second seeing a GP. If you can't get in soon it might be worth showing the pharmacist. They might not be able to do much but they have put my mind at rest before and we often under-estimate what they do know. Worth a go if you are worrying and can't get seen soon.

Could you have caught whatever it is whilst combing your hair?

The tick isn't doing its job if it's bleeding like that (all the blood would be going into the tick). So I think you can rule that out.

I can't see from the photo, but if it was a raised mole that you caught when doing your hair, then it would bleed rather copiously. Apply pressure and get the bleeding stopped. Then you can either see pharmacist or GP, or wait for a few days till it heals completely, if you think it might be hard to identify when all you can see is a scab.

I have a lot of moles but none in my (thick) hair.
I dunno how you could tell apart a mole apart from a scab.
I do things like cut myself with nails when washing hair.

I'm quite a mole-y person, and mum and grandma have had to have a few removed so I will get it checked out, just wanted any ideas for what else it might be!

I know I have moles on my scalp because when I was younger, DM said 'you could never be bald, you have so many ugly moles' Hmm

Thanks for responses. Will book an appointment soon ish.

Could it be a cherry angioma? I think that’s what they’re called. I have developed quite a few on my stomach and chest in my 30s and if they get scratched they bleed like crazy! I recently found one on my scalp just at the edge of my hairline so they seem to be able to pop up anywhere! Definitely worth getting your GP to check it out but hopefully nothing too serious.
