Sorry, posting for traffic really.

Around the 7th/8th Dec I had unprotected sex, this was around day 12 of my cycle. Took MAP within around 6 hours, although I subsequently read that it’s not effective if taken during ovulation. 10 days later I had heavy bleeding lasting around 5 days and assumed this was an early “period” brought on by taking it. Today I’ve started bleeding quite heavily again so I’m really confused; it’s too late for my original period had I not taken the pill but too soon for another one. Is it normal for the MAP to interfere with your cycle to this extent?

When I took the map it made me periods very messed up and very heavy aswell when they were normally always light.

MissMisery · 10/01/2018 19:42

Only taken once .... wouldn't have known I had. No sickness, no change to cycle.(Realise I may have just been lucky)

treaclesoda · 10/01/2018 19:44

I took the MAP once and didn't have a period again for about 18 months. But it coincided with a very stressful time in my life so I'm assuming that it was a combination of the two things that made it happen.

glueandstick · 10/01/2018 19:45

My morning after pill experience is currently fast asleep upstairs.

Rolypolybabies · 10/01/2018 19:51

Lol glueandstick!

RandomMess · 10/01/2018 19:53

My MAP is about to turn 21!!! My friend chose to abort after her MAP failure...

If you've bled heavily I guess it worked!

CurlyBlueberry · 10/01/2018 19:55

Yeah my cycles went a bit funny IIRC. Worse than that though was the mood change. It made me feel really unhappy for weeks. I Googled it afterwards and turns out it's a not-uncommon side effect.

SeaEagleFeather · 10/01/2018 19:58

My MAP is currently refusing to sleep upstairs groan

RandomMess · 10/01/2018 20:01

How could they ever test how reliable MAP is, they don't know if you would have got pregnant anyway I think it's claims are b*llocks

FlurkenSchnit · 10/01/2018 20:02

I've taken it twice and each time I came on a couple of days earlier for my next period but that was it - no difference in mood or heaviness.

Herewegoagainagain · 10/01/2018 20:05

Mine is due in 11 weeks!

StoorieHoose · 10/01/2018 20:07

Only taken it once many many years ago when it was two tablets (might still be the same still) first tablet was okay second tablet made me violently sick (as I was crossing a busy road - projectile vomit!!) phoned the surgery and had to get another prescription

glueandstick · 10/01/2018 20:07

I reckon the claims are utter bollocks too. I won’t even bother with it if the need arose again. Seems to be a waste of £35 😂😂

DrCoconut · 10/01/2018 20:55

My MAP baby is 2 now. I wouldn't change him for the world but he was a surprise.

Monoblock67 · 10/01/2018 20:57

My MAP was taken less than an hour after sex. Hoorah, shouldn’t have a problem.

DS2 turns three next week. Did you know it doesn’t work in 1/20 women!!

ThisLittleKitty · 10/01/2018 20:59

I think it works.. The 3 times I took it I never got pregnant the time I didn't I got pregnant. (This was over a couple years not all close together before someone moans about me "taking it too much")

SeaEagleFeather · 10/01/2018 21:31

The doctor who diagnosed my preg (he was -meant- to be checking for a UTI!) said that it doesnt work as well in older women. His phrasing.

RandomMess · 10/01/2018 21:50

I was only 24!!!!

geekone · 10/01/2018 22:28

I have taken it 3 timesBlush all with DH last time was 10 years ago when we in a fit of confidence we decided to ttc.....then chickened out big style the next morning. There MAP always made me dizzy and generally it was all I could do to not spew.

LemonysSnicket · 11/01/2018 00:50

Taken thrice, no idea where I was on my cycle as I was a teen/ young adult and don’t have a clue. It was due to missing pills or vomiting meaning it could be voided.

Some slightly heavier bleeding/ period like symptoms during the week afterwards ( could also have been from the lack of pills) Didn’t notice any mood change but I’m a mercurial snappy bastard all the time so who knows.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/01/2018 00:53

Yes, it is normal OP.

MaggieMeldrum · 11/01/2018 01:38

My map experience is now a teenager!

SeaEagleFeather · 11/01/2018 08:09

Your baby was determined to be born wasn't he or she random? :D

MargaretCavendish · 11/01/2018 08:23

I didn't have any side effects or cycle changes at all when I took it (3 times over about 10 years), but it's really common for that to happen - it used to, and perhaps still does, warn about it on the leaflet in the packet.

But also - if you're saying you last had a bleed on 17th December and you presumably have quite short cycles (if you think day 12 could have been ovulation) - the next period isn't that early? You'd expect it on the 14th on a 28 day cycle, and you started on the 10th - maybe it's because my periods have never been that regular, but that doesn't seem madly out of sync to me?
