90 year old Grandmother - present ideas

Hi all!

My Grandmother is turning 90 in February and I need gift ideas (posting here for the traffic, sorry!)

She's in Devon (Axminster), wheelchair bound and my Grandfather is slowly following her downhill. The rest of the family, myself included live in Surrey so it's quite difficult to get her anywhere because of this.

I want to get her something sentimental but things like photo frames and jewelry etc have been quite over done between all the cousins over the years. My Mum and Aunt are buying her an afternoon tea at a local hotel which we know has good disability access.

I was debating having a jigsaw puzzle made as she enjoys these, with a collection of photos on the puzzle of the whole family - but not sure if this is special enough for a 90th?

Any ideas welcome! Smile x

How about a bird table for the garden or similar so she can watch the birds out of the window or whilst sat in the garden?
You can get ones with engravings on etc if you wanted it personalised.

My lovely Nan is also 90 and I got her a recliner chair and a table for the garden and she loved it - she seems to enjoy the simple pleasures much more now she is older

If she likes jigsaws a family photo one would be cool! What about a family photo shoot as well? Up to date group photo for her.

When I was buying a gift for an ageing relative (80 years old) I found a lot of age-themed gifts online. The best one was a slogan reading 'I'm not 80, I'm 79.95 & postage & packing.

I love the idea of a photo blanket. Thanks @wasdoingfine.

I was struggling for ideas for a relative also.

The best thing we did for an elderly aunt was to put a bird table in her garden and rig a camera up to it. It is live 24/7 and she just has to turn her tele over to view it.
Every time we turn up now it is on.

For DGM's 100th we got her an engraved glass paperweight.

What's her eyesight like?
Digital radio, Speaking alarm clock, large print remote control, round your neck magnifying glass, audio books.

These are all really good ideas! Unfortunately they live in a flat with no garden - otherwise the bird table would have been a great idea!

Happy Birthday to your gran!

Last year for my dad's birthday I had Tesco's deliver one of their Meal Deals, a bottle of wine and other foodie bits that I know he and my mum like. He was really surprised and happy as he doesn't need/want anything and he and mum had a nice, easy to prepare meal with a bottle of wine. He's asked for this again for Christmas!

Probably the best gift you could give her would be to go visit them though.

I bought mine a book where it has prompts for them to remember memories and note them down. For example they're favourite food as a teenager; favourite film; holiday location; what they think your best traits are and your worst Grin

It prompted lots of conversations between my parents and we found out loads about them and their memories that we didn't know. It will be a treasured memory in itself for future generations.
