To be really annoyed with recruiters

I started a new job in the new year that was found for me with a recruitment agent.
Lovely new colleagues, supportive boss who doesn't throw his weight around like the last one. Happy happy.
From day 1 of working with the recruitment agents I mentioned I had a holiday this month that I've had booked since march to see some family I only see once a year, due to us meeting half way it is cataclysmically expensive to rearrange and can't be done. I did say I'd rather start at the end of the month if the holiday would be an issue.
I was assured about 4 days before starting by the recruitment agency that it would be fine.

They haven't told the new company.

Whoops. How are the new company about it?

That’s for your new company to take up as a failure of the recruiters. Presumably they paid them to provide a service.

It's not great but you really should have told the company yourself too, either at interview or when they sent you contracts for signing.
