I have an upcoming interview for a
support position in a local
school (would love to get it). Never interviewed for the public sector before, any tips?

I just had one that went terribly badly
Have worked in the independent sector for ages and want to shift to the public sector.

I thought my observation went well. They said it was unacceptable that I had done whole class teaching during my 30 minute session . Bizarre. ( I had done a mixture of whole class , group , paired work ).

There will be a question about Safeguarding. How would you handle if you had concerns about a child?
[ See whether the school has their Safeguarding procedure on their website... say that you'd follow that!]

Always always always ask questions at the end - I interview all the time and I actually feel deflated when people say they have no questions- try - what's the best thing about working here / what development opportunities will be available, / how do you set personal objectives for staff / what would my first 3 months in the post look like - people love to speak and you will engage better with them. Also good if you can find out if there are any changes planned and ask more about that. Good luck!

Have you gone to the school to visit? Do that if you can.

Make sure you’ve got concrete, relevant and detailed examples which can translate to a School setting.

MiserableAsSin Sorry to heat that.
Bring Great point, didn’t think of that.
Salt yes always good to have a question up the sleeve.
Believe Unlikely to get a chance to visit b4 but know it fairly well. Good point re linking to school environment.

Thanks all!
