Pinto beans. Forgot to boil them before adding to chilli. Am I going to die?

And if I’m not going to die , is my chilli retrievable??

You'll live. Dammit. joke!!

dementedpixie · 09/01/2018 17:20

They were dried? Or out a tin?

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:21

Dried - I soaked them overnight but forgot to rapid boil

It’s been a long day

RatherBeRiding · 09/01/2018 17:21

If they were out of a tin you'll be fine. If they were dried.........!

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:22

Not out of a tin

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 09/01/2018 17:22

You're fucked then.

BulletFox · 09/01/2018 17:23

On a more serious note if I'm rehydrating beans, I usually put boiled water on and leave them to soak for at least 5 hours.

Out of a tin they just need draining and can go straight in.

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:23

seriously - I’m freaking out

OP posts:
MrsPestilence · 09/01/2018 17:24

It is only kidney beans that NEED the rapid boil. Where they still crunchy?

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:24

One of my DC ate one. I had three mouthfuls before realising

OP posts:
Chowmum · 09/01/2018 17:25

Have you eaten the chilli?

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:25

They’re a little crunchy

I soaked them for probably 8 hours

They’ve been simmering in the chilli for about 30 mind

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 09/01/2018 17:25

Being serious they are toxic google it, I honestly would get a doctors advice.

Chowmum · 09/01/2018 17:25

Ah. Cross post. Stop eating now. No, you can't save it.

RatherBeRiding · 09/01/2018 17:25

You might be a bit poorly. How many have you eaten?

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:25

18 hours - soaked themfor 18 hours

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:26

I’m guessing the toxins will have leaked out into the chilli?

OP posts:
Chowmum · 09/01/2018 17:26

The toxins in the beans will leach out into the liquid, so your chilli will be poisonous.

Did you rinse the soaked beans before adding them?

Robyrollover · 09/01/2018 17:26

Fucks sake, all that wasted food and effort Sad

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 09/01/2018 17:27

Can you not just cook the chilli for ages?

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 09/01/2018 17:28

I'd be more worried about your food poisoning than a wasted chilli

Chowmum · 09/01/2018 17:28

Symptoms start within one to three hours of consumption of raw or undercooked kidney beans. The symptoms are extreme nausea followed by severe vomiting followed within one to a few hours with diarrhea and for some people, abdominal pain. Recovery is usually within three to four hours after the symptoms start.

All people are susceptible, regardless of age or gender. Severity of the symptoms is dose related. Eating as few as four or five raw soaked beans can cause symptoms. Confirmation of diagnosis of the disease is by observing the hemagglutination of red blood cells.

WhoWants2Know · 09/01/2018 17:29

Maybe stick it back on the hob until the beans are soft? Then the bad stuff (lectins) will have broken down.

Chowmum · 09/01/2018 17:30

Although I don't think you can personally observe the hemagglutination thingy.
