Recognise how?

If you want to browse the files on the phone, plug it in and then open the notification, select "transfer files" or whatever you want to do, usually it defaults to USB charging.

Swipe the top menu down and select allow access (or something along those lines) if that doesn't work use a different cable the original samsung one is crap!

Is this link any help?

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 15:48

Try a different USB lead.

c3pu · 08/01/2018 15:55

We might need to get a bit more technical then...

What computer are you plugging it into? What OS is it running?

What Model phone are you using? What version of Android is it running?

What happened when you went to the shop? Did it work there?

Does it charge up OK?

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 20:08

Thanks c3pu

Its a galaxy samsung

A lenova laptop

The usb cables work to charge up phones from the main socket.

In the shop she said she reset the apps. I dont know what she did.

My last phone i had a similar problem, i was told to set it to, oh i cant remember, but it was from the main settings menu. I cant find anything similar on this phone.

Which Samsung Galaxy model?
Can you go into settings, then tap 'about phone' and tell us the model number?

Then tap on 'software information' and tell us which android version you're running?

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 21:13

Oh ok. I didnt know any of this stuff. Hang on...

And thank you again.

Noodledoodledoo · 08/01/2018 21:36

Different USB cable might be the answer - mine will charge with one cable but I need to use the official one for it to read files. The one it charges with just doesn't work!

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 21:40

Smg92of is the phone

And...

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 21:43

Is software information the same as software update?

You need to use a proper Samsung USB charging/ data lead that came with the phone. We tried to plus my Samsung Note 4 into a Lenovo laptop and it wouldn't work with a generic USB charging lead.

ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 21:45

Oh, found it, Android version 7.0

OP posts:
ferriswheel · 08/01/2018 21:45

Thanks, ill order one now. I hope thats it.

Have you tried Samsung Kies? I used to have a Galaxy and that only connected to my PC (running Windows 7) through Kies software.

WickedLazy · 08/01/2018 22:38

On the laptop, is there a "my computer" option? If you go in there, you'll usually find the phone, and all the files. Sorry if you've tried that. If the phone charges, it's connected, you just need to work out how to access the files.

WickedLazy · 08/01/2018 22:43

I didn't know certain usb leads wouldn't work, all mine do, even the cheapie ones.

user1471590586 · 08/01/2018 23:07

Yes my lead made the difference. Coincidentally we were doing this today when trying to transfer 1500 photos from my phone onto our Lenovo laptop. Generic USB wouldn't work but the official Samsung data/ charging lead did.
