Making fun of me or am I being too sensitive?

Basically a while ago I was upset at work because I’d had my car broken into and my handbag stolen .. had my purse, phone everything gone. I wasn’t at home and didn’t know the number at work so couldn’t even borrow a phone to call. I had to drive in with the passenger side window of glass falling down on me.

It’s obviously not the worst thing to happen to someone but it was shit and I was upset when I got to work.

Anyway they were having banter at work on Friday and laughing about me regarding a different situation ... very usual and I laugh along, it’s just a bit of fun and I can laugh at myself. But then once of them declared - remember the time she came in crying about her car?

I just felt it was a step too far ... I couldn’t help being upset about a situation and I think it’s unfair to have been made fun of for it. Aibu?

Yanbu. I think whoever said that needs a lesson in social norms and etiquette

DecoysBitch · 07/01/2018 20:59

Yanbu, that's horrible OP. Things like that can be traumatising, I cried when my bag was stolen, I felt very violated. If those twats were laughing about it then they're just twats I'm afraid.

TowerRavenSeven · 07/01/2018 21:01

Yanbu at all. That was horrible.

You're not BU at all. You were upset, probably very shocked. I know I would have been, having to deal with the car and having lost my lifeline handbag. Your colleague must be pretty nasty to think that was funny.

Come to think about it, why do they make fun of you at other times? That would p&%s me off.

They sound like bullies.

LyraPotter · 07/01/2018 21:09

YANBU. My car was broken into and my bag stolen and I found it so upsetting. Also I cry easily and am sensitive about it so would hate for someone to bring it up in public! Your co-worker sounds like an insensitive arsehole tbh. I bet they wouldn't find it funny if it was there car broken into!

Eltonjohnssyrup · 07/01/2018 21:09

YANBU, but it sounds like they like you just one of them is tactless and took it too far.

EnidButton · 07/01/2018 21:11

In fact that person was being very weird. 99.9% of people would be very upset in that situation (car). To laugh at someone for it is bizarre.

BornInSydneyy · 07/01/2018 21:12

Thank you .... It definitely left a mark on me, every time I walk back to my car I expect it to have happened again. Cleaning the thousands of pieces of glass up and still finding it now.

It’s nice to hear that I wasn’t just being a drama queen because I cried about at work. I mean it had just literally happened.

Woah, that's so rude.

Next time, if there is a next time, try "Did you need that to sound so rude?" They may think twice next time.

frasier · 07/01/2018 21:18

^ I meant to type "Did you MEAN that to sound so rude?"

theabysswithin · 07/01/2018 21:19

YANBU. That's horrible. They sound twisted.

teaandtoast · 07/01/2018 21:28

They sound like bullies to me.
