To Not Clean It Up

An hour ago I was watching the Crown, and decided to go into the kitchen to charge my phone. I went in, turned the light on,walked across the room, and felt something squidgy fly off my foot and across the kitchen. I had killed a slug and it landed all grim and open and bloody and mucusy in the middle of the room. I screamed, stared, and ran out of the room, turning all lights out. My DH went to bed hours ago, and my eldest DS is likely to be up first tomorrow morning, and will go into the kitchen first thing. AIBU just to hide in bed and hope my DH gets up in the morning and cleans it up, and deny all knowledge of how it came to be like that? But what about DS- he is likely to barfSad

Yes. Just clean it up.

BigBairyHollocks · 06/01/2018 01:29

Put a load of bog roll on it, put a sandwich bag over your hand and then wipe it up. Turn the sandwich bag inside out over the bog roll (like picking a dog poo up). Tie up bag and put in bin. Then spray the area with something and wipe it up with some more loo roll.

Channel your inner moggie and leave it for your family as a gift.... Grin

user1andonly · 06/01/2018 01:38

What dentydown said.

I get that it's grim but it's not fair to leave for your DS to find - from your post it doesn't sound like he's an older teen in which case you could perhaps have got away with writing him a note to explain and offering a fiver if he dealt with it!

TriskaiDeckTheHallsia · 06/01/2018 01:45

Ugh I feel the same about slugs but YWBU to leave it there for DS to potentially step on in the morning, plus I'd find it too gross to think about it still being there in my kitchen all night (and I'm ridiculously messy). dentydown's method seems best.

Exterminate with at least 1kg of salt. Wake DH up and get him to remove the remains. Wash your foot in something disinfectant related. Put more salt down for it's friend
they come in two's Put your house up for sale first thing tomorrow morning. wish I'd never opened this thread

OutThereToo · 06/01/2018 01:54

Definitely wake DH up, and hide under covers till all sorted.

StealthNinjaMum · 06/01/2018 02:21

yadnbu. Eurghhhh, I knew I shouldn't have checked mumsnet one final time before bed, I'm going to be dreaming about squishy dead slugs under my feet.

OhBeggerItsChristmas · 06/01/2018 02:35

Oh no, I have just remembered I didn't get the chicken out of the freezer to defrost for making a korma later and was considering going down to get it out. Now I am too scared as you have reminded me I regularly see slug trails on the doormat in the kitchen in the mornings, so they come in and party overnight regularly, don't want to go down and find them there. (Maybe I could offer a jug of tequilas with a hefty dose of salt to them.)

YANBU to not want to go and remove the slug, I would be really tempted to leave it there. But my conscience would probably make me move it before one of the children got up in the morning. or, next doors cat is sleeping in our bathroom, I could show her any slugs and see if she will eat them

Britishgurl123 · 06/01/2018 03:02

Bury it in the garden, or give it a good vikings funeral and set it down a puddle on a popsicle stick

Bowerbird5 · 06/01/2018 03:32

Oh for goodness sake put your big girl pants on and remove it. Paper towel , plastic bag if you need one and pick it up then wet paper towel and wash the bit of floor with it.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/01/2018 03:41

It's when a slug gets in between your toes, in the dark, that you need to worry ! 😂

1forAll74 · 06/01/2018 03:51

I gets slugs in my small kitchen, very old cottage type house, I usually sprinkle a little salt on them, then sweep them up with dustpan and brush and sling them out into the garden. I have three cats, who just stare at them and walk away. Its a mystery why the slugs are nearly always on the back door mat, I cant see where they get in,unless they are such super strong slugs who can come through the cat flap !

This is why I'm glad I got divorced. I learned to sort all this stuff myself Grin. Vair empowering.

BigBairyHollocks · 06/01/2018 09:06

Good morning!Well I did exactly what everyone said not to do.I left it,and early this morning when my DH woke for his early morning pee,I described to him the horror of what was in the kitchen, and he said “no problem darling,I will go sort it”. so he got up and cleaned it up,both boys still in bed asleep and none the wiser. Now my lovely DH is making me a cuppa in bed, and that is why I married him! I do literally eveything else in the house, including pick up rubbish from all over the street when the bins blew over,so I’m more than happy with letting him clear it up!
