No hot water and rent?

So, we've had no hot water for two weeks; I'm living in a hostel at the moment. There's another hostel a few blocks away who do have hot water, so we've been told we can use their showers.

I have to trek down the street, have a shower, trek back up, warm up again and then get ready for the day / bed.

I can't even have a warm wash as there is literally no hot water anywhere.

I'd like a backdated rent discount, we keep getting told it will be fixed, and I feel that two weeks is more than reasonable, even with Christmas, however, it doesn't look like they are going to give us any rent discount.

AIBU to 1) Keep Asking for a discount, and 2) E-mail the head office and get them involved.

I do not want to get kicked out though as I cannot afford anything else right now.

I don't think your chances of finding someone with a well informed solution here are very high. You need to speak to an expert, I'm sure Shelter can advise you properly.

Thanks Sonders! I will contact Shelter before I do anything else. Great idea which I hadn't thought of.

You can also google for a local Law Centre, and get as many other residents on board as possible.
I know its been a holiday but they are taking your rent money, and should have landlords insurance to cover this.

Thank you irk - many of the residents are really struggling after Christmas so i am sure a few of them would get on board. I just don't see why I have to pay the same when a vital component of the service is missing.

We also don't have any central heating in our room so are living with electric heaters with no temperature control - it's either boiling or freezing in here.
