To defrost meatballs in the microwave?

Really craving pasta for dinner and have some meatballs in the freezer - bought fresh but frozen as weren't used at the time. The pack says to defrost overnight in the fridge but that doesn't help me tonight... WIBU to defrost them in the microwave on the defrost setting or will I make myself ill? Beef meatballs if that makes a difference!

It is the whole point of a microwave surely; I would and have done so.

Of course you can defrost them in the microwave.

I think that would be fine. To be honest I'd probably cook them from frozen but make sure they had a good long time simmering in sauce (and cut one before eating to make sure it wasn't pink in the middle).

You didn’t watch that Food Unwrapped programme last night?

It showed the levels of bacteria in each of the various defrosting processes & I think from memory, defrosting in the microwave was the worst, at room temp wasn’t ideal but the safest was in the fridge.

I guess by now you’d have enjoyed them and they were yum.
