Night before Dc's birthday

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 00:41

Am I the only one who cant sleep the night before your DC's birthday? Balloons are blown, gifts are wrapped, (only two, it's just been Christmas) food is in the freezer. But i feel the need to sit up and drink wine! Perhaps it's nostalgia? Remembering where is was X time ago. Is it just me or do others do it too??

I've always been too knackered from shopping / party organising / wrapping not to sleep. But enjoy the wine and memories!

Ihaterapmusic · 03/01/2018 00:46

I do lol. I can never sleep through excitement for him.. He's nearly a teen now and I'm still the same. Lol

Emily7708 · 03/01/2018 00:51

Just curious - why only two gifts as it’s just been Christmas? Would you give more gifts if DC had a mid year birthday? I think I’d rather have fewer Christmas gifts and more on my birthday, given a choice.

Emily7708 · 03/01/2018 00:55

But yes I do look forward to DCs’ birthdays very much, unlike my own!

OhHolyFuck · 03/01/2018 00:58

Yes, I do the 'X amount of years ago I was just going into hospital now/getting induced/being transferred to delivery...' all through the day every single year

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 00:59

I few years ago I started to buy the the dec's ect while Christmas shopping and put aside the extra presents we had bought for him so it feels like there is no build up. Just pull out the bag from the wardrobe!! But I still feel like I'm there, in the hospital, how i was feeling at this hour on that day.

I feel it with our other DS who has his birthday in Feb, again he has a bag in the wardrobe, with banners and gifts ect.

Only 2 gifts because it’s just been Christmas seems a bit unfair? Other than that - I struggle to sleep with any special occasion .

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 01:07

No I wouldn't buy any more gifts if it was July birthday. The two gifts we have bought, he will love and he will play with them, more then he would if we had bought him 15 gifts! Sometimes less is more. My other DS will only get 2 for his birthday.

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 01:09

so if each gift was £100 pound each, would that make you feel better?? are we forgetting they are children??? The gifts aren't £100 each, they are a robot and dinosaur, surprise surprise just what he asked for!! Whats the point in buying more???

It's my daughters 16th today (3rd) and I've decorated the living room with streamers, banners and balloons. Have her favourite food ready for breakfast and even drove an hours round trip to get her favourite ice cream (vegan Ben & Jerrys) I love spoiling them on their special day. Definitely too excited to sleep

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 01:17

Hadenoughtoday Thats what we have done too! all the food is in and his fiends will be around all day in costume! Surely thats whats birthdays are about? I'm glad we are on the same boat, and its not about the amount of gifts that have been bought! She will love the ice cream! What a treat!

DeadMorose · 03/01/2018 01:18

Mine just been(2nd). I was making and decorating a cake, so had no time for nostalgia.
I always end up decorating after their bedtime. It seems to be much easier.
But I do know what you mean. I get those moments throughout the day.

FundayMorning · 03/01/2018 01:18

Me me, I do this! It's a milestone for us too, the day you gave birth to them, an enormous life-altering event, I relive it too. My labour with my first child began the day before so I relive it for two days. Which I'm sure my DH loves.

Have a lovely day!

Hadenoughtoday · 03/01/2018 01:22

Gemz1806 sounds like your son will have a fab birthday. I love it when they come down in the morning and see the decorations and cards/presents x

FreshHerbs · 03/01/2018 01:25

Yep this was me on the 1st as my sons birthday was today (2nd). All my children I'm the same. The night before excites me and I always go back and reminisce about the baby/labour days in my head.
They grow so fast don't they?

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 01:27

It really is FundayMorning we can relive every moment too, I know to the minute what I was doing this time 3 years ago!! We looked at his baby pics today with love and with a wee bit of a heavy heart as being the 2nd child he hasn't had as much attention etc as DS1, but he is loved in his own way, in his own crazy way!! He is amazing, mental and a joy!!! He has made is brothers life better, and been his friend from arrival. OMG my baby is 3 tomorrow! My last child!!!!

I think people were commenting on the number of gifts because of how you phrased it, rather than them necessarily thinking there's anything wrong with giving "just" 2 gifts. You said in the OP "only two, it's just been Christmas", implying that the number of gifts was because of the proximity to Christmas rather than that simply being what your family does for birthdays (seems fine to me - 2 is plenty!).

FundayMorning · 03/01/2018 01:46

Ah OP, you're making me feel a bit teary as I sit here bfing my last baby!

frasier · 03/01/2018 01:47

Happy Birthday Gemz's DC! Cake

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 02:11

Thank you so much for the lovely ladies wishing my DS birthday wishes, it's now actual birthday! Unfortunately for me it was an 1hr 5min from start to finish at about 7am, At this point it was only I only had back pain and hot water bottles for pain relief, with no dilatation!! From 7am it all happened and DH just made it, As guessed he came out back to back like a turbo train!! Born at 8:05am. I would relive that moment again and again!xxxx

Biffs are you kidding? My DC get ONE gift on their birthday! OPs has two...how's that unfair? No gifts would be unfair.

OP YANBU. I couldn't sleep on Christmas Eve with excitement!

frasier · 03/01/2018 16:17

Well, how did it go?!

Gemz1806 · 03/01/2018 19:51

He has had a lovely day!!! Had his friends round, loved his gifts and played with them both all day!!! Thank for all the kind words!! Only a few weeks to go before we have to do it all again for DS2! Can't wait!! GrinGrin

Hadenoughtoday · 03/01/2018 20:42

Gemz1806 glad your little one had a great day. My daughters didn't start off great due to pain levels but after an ice cream breakfast and a vegan takeaway she has had a good day. I'm also doing it all again for dd1 in a few weeks - what date is your ds2? X

Leeds2 · 03/01/2018 20:47

Completely off topic, but Hadenough where did you get a vegan takeaway?

Glad that your DD and Gemz's DS have had lovely birthdays.
