To be really upset by something I've seen on facebook?

Disclaimer: I am pregnant and hormonal.

So something has come up on my Facebook because somebody I know has commented on it. It is a group that screenshots people's posts on facebook and laughs at them. The general gist seems to be uneducated Jeremy Kyle-esque people. I find this in itself disgusting.

The woman in question posted about a personal situation that most people I guess would keep off of Facebook but people have found her Facebook profile from the screen shot and are looking through all her posts and laughing about them. This includes laughing at her child's name, laughing that her partner was brutally murdered, saying at least he has the decency to die, laughing about her being on benefits and her appearance, saying she should have had an abortion instead of had her child.

Its really upset me that adults can behave like this. I want to message this woman and tell her to make her profile private but I would hate for her to discover the things that have been said. What is the right thing to do here? I'm also really disappointed that this person I know would have any part of this. She's a grown woman with a husband and 3 kids. It's awful high school bullying stuff. What is wrong with people?

What do I do?

You can post on the site about how disgusting these people are. Ask them to take a good hard look at themselves. If no one dissents, they think it's normal. On the other hand, why are you looking at it at all?

Graphista · 02/01/2018 18:13

I'd report the posts to fb that's disgusting! I'd also unfriend (in real life too) and block the person who shared it. Not the kind of person I would want to be friends with.

Squeegle · 02/01/2018 18:13

I would make a report to Facebook about some of the specific posts you mention. They should not allow this online.

I would also unfriend this woman. This sounds atrocious. I don’t know what else you can do, but some of the things you are talking about sound almost like police matters to be honest.

Bluelonerose · 02/01/2018 18:13

Can you report the Facebook page?

Just report the post and the group to Facebook HQ. Then leave the group.
There's a notorious one that gets closed every so often and always pops up again with number 6 ect. They revel in who can be the biggest twunt and basically troll. It's sad really.

But no, I'd not tell the person.

EB123 · 02/01/2018 18:17

I know of a group like this too, I was added and swiftly removed myself. It is vile, posts that people put on Facebook groups screenshot and then posted anonymously for others to laugh at. Vile

Don't post on the group because these types will just turn their attention to you.

PuffinBadger · 02/01/2018 18:17

I've found when I've reported offensive stuff to facebook eg. Racism against Muslims, they don't give a shit and don't delete it unfortunately.

BabyLord · 02/01/2018 18:18

I'm not at part of that group I think it's vile! The person I know is so it came up on my feed.

Yes grimble, that's the one.

Will try to find out how to report posts although I find Facebook to be notoriously shit at dealing with thease things.

Sorry for typos

OP posts:
Grimbles · 02/01/2018 18:20

I thought the comments were vile too. The post itself was pretty anonymous, but then people searched and found the profile of the person and then found the name of her murdered partner which is stepping way over the line.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 02/01/2018 18:25

WTF? I've never even heard of these. Are they local groups?

Eltonjohnssyrup · 02/01/2018 18:31

Can someone PM me the group name?

BabyLord · 02/01/2018 18:31

No I don't think it's local I'm not sure. Just a general 'let's laugh at people who can't spell and who maybe didn't have the opportunities we did in life so we can feel smug and superior' thing. Disgusting.

Facebook do occasionally close groups like this.

There was one closed down recently. Although it's sprung back up, but its done slightly differently now.

Worth a try reporting the group.

smashyourglasses · 02/01/2018 18:33

Is it a secret?

MissionItsPossible · 02/01/2018 18:34

Is this common on Facebook? I thought it was attached to profiles so are their family and friends seeing them laughing at disadvantaged people and someone's dead husband. My family would give me a bollocking if I posted something laughing at that.

ParkheadParadise · 02/01/2018 18:34

When my dd was murdered it was all over Facebook. It started off with someone asking on a page about my home town What had happened at X police everwhere. It soon turned and some of the things people posted was disgusting. It was a public page and I read it. My sister eventually commented and asked the page owners to take it down, which they did. The damage was already done I was devastated.
That poor women

Lovemusic33 · 02/01/2018 18:34

I would message the person you know (that’s involved in the post), tell her that it’s disgusting and that it is public. I would then unfriend her and report to Facebook. I hate this kind of thing.

Lovemusic33 · 02/01/2018 18:36

Park sorry for your loss, this is what makes me angry about social media, people write alsorts of things without considering the people involved, it’s very damaging.

Loonoonow · 02/01/2018 18:39

This is awful. Report OP and hopefully it will be removed. People can be horrible sometimes.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 02/01/2018 18:40

Could we mass report? Has a bit more impact.

x2boys · 02/01/2018 18:43

It must be a public group because otherwise you wouldn't be able to see comments I hate these kinds of things I think people think they can say what they want behind a keyboard .

Anasnake · 02/01/2018 18:44

I think I've seen it - Game of Thrones reference?

Serialweightwatcher · 02/01/2018 18:44

That's so cruel - makes me sick when adults act like this .. problem is though that a bullying child usually ends up as a bullying adult - so disgusting. If the somebody you know has made rotten comments then I'd get rid of them and I think you should tell the lady concerned so she can change settings - she will probably find out in the end anyway and maybe it can be done sooner rather than later - poor thing
