to be so annoyed with Amazon - any advice?

So I bought DS christmas present on 12 December from Amazon at a really good price (£60 less than it had been the day before) with the proviso that it would be delivered today. DS was so happy he was getting this present he didn't mind waiting through Christmas for it - and we have been busy so has been fine.
Yesterday I logged in to see the present was not dispatched yet so emailed Amazon, and today they email to say they cannot fulfil the order and will refund me. They have had weeks to find this out so I could have ordered him an actual christmas present cannot believe they are only letting me know when it is due, and so angry that I have relied on them for that price and now let down - argh - what do I do ?

Email the ceo. He often arranges a bit of extra comp for Prime members.

What is it? Is it in the sale elsewhere now?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 02/01/2018 09:23

Is it something you can only get through Amazon or is it available elsewhere? When I ordered from John Lewis, for example, it was delivered to my local Waitrose the following day, so you could get it by tomorrow.

The Amazon thing is a nuisance but there’s nothing you can do about that if they’ve refunded you.

It's an electric drum kit (!) so can be bought elsewhere but for £200 and I was paying £140. Won't get the refund for 4-5 days anyway. I know there is not much I can do I just feel so guilty that I made him wait for his present this long, and now he is going to be waiting another week (and be back at school) before he gets it.

Lidl has one of those in stock!

Alesis DM Lite? If so you might find another Amazon seller

I was in similar position a couple years ago. I think they advertise stuff when they have v little stock in the expectation that you will then order at higher price. Amazon is great when all is going well but v difficult to deal with when there is a problem I found.

mumpoints · 02/01/2018 10:22

That's awful! I'm not an Amazon user really but hat is bad service for any company. I would certainly make a complaint. They should wait until the day before delivery to tell you it's out of stock.

Sales are on, have a good search for the kit elsewhere.

mumpoints · 02/01/2018 10:32

^ should read "they SHOULD'NT wait until the day before..."!

whoareyou123 · 02/01/2018 12:25

Definitely should complain to them. I doubt they will give you £60, but I expect they will credit your account with something.

Cantuccit · 02/01/2018 12:27

I doubt the CEO arranges anything. Maybe the emails go to a complaint team.

Allthetuppences · 02/01/2018 12:28

This happens a lot with Amazon. I am nit sure anything genuinely gets sold at their sale prices.

LivingInMidnight · 02/01/2018 12:32

Did you buy it from Amazon or a marketplace seller? If it was amazon directly they shouldn't need to refund you as they won't have taken the money yet. They take it when it's despatched.
