Front fastening bras.

Does anyone know where I can get a front fastening bra, size 46D/DD,preferably in black or navy (although will settle for other colours if black/navy not available) in mainly cotton, that doesn't cost the earth? I feel like I've looked everywhere over the last few months. Not all companies that do bras cater for larger sizes, often only going up to 40D. I've tried Evans,Yours Clothing, all the usual catalogues (Very,Ambrose Wilson etc) with no joy. Every time I see one I like,it's sold out! A couple of years ago I bought a pack of 2 from Yours Clothing for £22,which I think is reasonable. But they are starting to fall apart. Help!

Its what M&S do. So they neasure your ribcage then add 4 inches and say thats the bra size you need. Which isnt the case.

monkeysox · 01/01/2018 19:20

Jd Williams. My mum used to buy those sizes from them. HthFlowers

sparklesbarkles · 01/01/2018 19:21

If you know a brand and the size you are with them, then eBay is a good bet

RavingRoo · 01/01/2018 19:22

No M&S don’t do that. I was measured a couple weeks ago. They take your actual band size. If you’re a half like I am (35.5) they will bring the lower (34) and upper (36) sizes.

spangles1963 · 01/01/2018 19:23

I will get myself measured again. I was measured a few years ago, when I was slimmer (about size 18-20) and came up at a 42H! Every bra I tried on this size was uncomfortably tight around my ribs and had enough spare material in the end of the cups for me to fit a small satsuma in! I have come to the conclusion that I am a 46D by trial and error of what feels comfortable and supportive.

I wouldn't waste your money.

I've got 4 or 5 front fastening bras from Simply Be and none of them give monoboob. Must be the make/style.

georgie262 · 01/01/2018 20:09

@lalalalyra it might be the style to be fair, this is similar to a crop top with 4/5 hooks up the front of the bra, in fact as soon as I move this sleeping toddler off me it's going in the bin 😩

RhiWrites · 01/01/2018 20:50

Not the bin. Charities take bras. One of them also gets match funds for every tonne of bras sent.

Bravissimo?

Cheby · 01/01/2018 21:51

TRy the boob or bust fb page and way of measuring. I used to wear a 46/48DD/E. I now wear a 42HH bra. So much more comfortable and supportive. I’m a dress size 24 on my top half.

If you CAN get a smaller back size to fit, it has the added benefit of opening up more brands.

SistersOfPercy · 01/01/2018 22:03

VS front fasteners are amazing but I don't think they go much bigger than a 38. Comfiest bras I've ever owned.
I have found very few front fasteners anywhere else so I'm watching this with interest.

idontlikealdi · 01/01/2018 22:39

I'm a size 14 with a 38 back properly measured mn style. Big ribs.

DotCottonDotCom · 01/01/2018 22:44

I don’t think VS goes to that size
I also think they are hit or miss, some of the fasteners don’t quite sit right

lalalalyra · 02/01/2018 05:52

Simply be do a range of different styles so I've never tried the crop too style ones @georgie262 -that's maybe the difference.

I like theirs (I get a frozen shoulder every now and again) as they aren't too expensive so can be replaced as soon as they start to feel stretched at all. Think it was £30 for 2 last time, which feels bargainous after a trip to bravissimo!

spangles1963 · 03/01/2018 17:37

Cheby That's incredible! 46/48DD/E to a 42HH! Will definitely get myself measured again ASAP.

Most women wear a back size that's too large and a cup size that's too small

Other end of the spectrum but I went into Bravissimo thinking I was a 34B, but left a 28DD

Good luck!

Spangles I’ve got so much more choice now. Previously I thought I could only buy bras from Evans or Simply Be, and when I had DD1 I could only find one brand of nursing bras in my size and they were uncomfortable and ugly. With DD2, I’m the same weight/shape, but I’ve now got so many more options available to me with the new way of measuring. I’m currently buying nursing bras from Hot Milk and yesterday I found some in M&S which fitted. I can normally only shop in plus size ranges so to be able to buy something from a ‘normal’ shop is a bit of a revelation.

tealandteal · 03/01/2018 19:53

OP you've probably thought of this but what if you do a normal bra up at the front and then spin it round and pull the straps up over your arms. Would that work?

spangles1963 · 03/01/2018 20:24

tealandteal I have tried this in the past. Sometimes I have been successful with it,but more often, not.
