Guests using iron

Was ironing earlier and iron was sticking to clothes. The surface is half black as someone staying has obviously burnt their clothes. Lucky it's not an expensive iron. Anyone know how to get it clean?

Where do u all keep ur iron? Do u all have one separate readily available for guests?
Just realise this didn't come up in the minor inconveniences thread.

There is seen iron cleaner thing you cab get in hardware DPS and some supermarkets. It's like lipstick that you rub on a warm iron that dissolves the gunk.

Should learn to edit. The last sentence is right....Blush

Tinselistacky · 01/01/2018 15:30

Be glad it was their own clothes!! When ds gf stayed she ironed in our passageway and melted the bloody carpet!!

ScreamingValenta · 01/01/2018 15:32

I haven't a clue where my iron is at the moment Blush - I mainly buy things that don't need ironing. It's a fairly basic one so I wouldn't worry about it being borrowed as it would be cheap to replace.

Oh no Tinsel.

Foil on the ironing board. Sprinkle quite a bit of salt on it. Put iron on max heat and then iron the salt /foil.

Rub a paracetamol tablet on it when it is warm, that'll clean it

KurriKurri · 01/01/2018 15:36

I never iron, I think my DD has an iron somewhere in the house (DD and I are only members of household) but I don't use it. Life is too short, and I rock the crumpled look. Grin

Basecamp21 · 01/01/2018 15:38

If you have a bar of soap rub this on the iron - then iron a rough towell- you may need to do this several times but it always works.

Nothomealone · 01/01/2018 15:40

Amazon sell hot iron cleaners.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 01/01/2018 15:44

Second the iron cleaner - stinks a bit but works.

Intrigued by some of the other suggestions though - may have to try the next time I scorch somethingBlush

TheFairyCaravan · 01/01/2018 15:50

Paracetamol will get if off. The iron has to be warm though so be careful you don’t burn your fingers.

Believeitornot · 01/01/2018 15:51

I usually put the iron on a low setting and run it quite hard over a towel

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/01/2018 15:56

The cheap lipstick things work really well, stink to high heaven but clear all the melted gunk really easily.

We had a guest iron the carpet in our rented house... she didn't appreciate the facebook telling off she received. She thought I was being petty... but she did pay the LL his £50 when we left!

wanderlust99 · 01/01/2018 16:03

I think it is perfectly fine for guests to use the iron (never heard of a guest iron!) but not leave the residue of their mistakes.

cowssheephens · 01/01/2018 16:05

Paracetamol, rub it on with tweezers. Works a treat.

Katyb1310 · 01/01/2018 16:33

Definitely the paracetamol thing works but make sure you use tweezers to hold it so you don't burn your fingers (speaking from experience!!)

JessYouMe · 01/01/2018 16:36

A separate iron for guests???? GrinGrinGrin

newyearnewname18 · 01/01/2018 18:12

Who irons carpets?

Tinselistacky · 01/01/2018 18:22

Newyear she ironed a top with just the carpet under it. There was an ironing board within sight too!!
Same gf who regularly used my ensuite and my shampoo /conditioner - left the lids off upside down and wasted both bottles!
Angry

yorkshireyummymummy · 01/01/2018 18:32

I still find it ever so odd that people don’t iron!

Cantuccit · 01/01/2018 18:35

Hope she's an ex, Tinsel.

Shouod have made her pay for replacement carpet in passage.

Tinselistacky · 01/01/2018 18:36

She is an ex gf now. Unfortunately ds choice has gone further downhill since - he is currently single and we are enjoying the peace!!
