To expect Sky to warn me I might lose my programmes?

We have Sky+. Last night, Sky downloaded a software upgrade which caused my digibox to freeze on standby so I couldn't switch it on today. The only way to get the box working was to do some sort of system re-set which caused me to lose everything I'd recorded. The lady on the helpdesk acknowledged that this was a problem with certain types of box and they'd known it might happen. Am I being unreasonable to expect them to give us advance notice of the download so we could copy unwatched programmes to DVD or video and not lose everything? I know it's only television but I lost my weekly fix of Sawyer in Lost and now won't have a clue what's going on! If anyone can fill me in on last week's episode, I'd be grateful.

We had a thomson sky+ box which used to freeze at the drop of a hat. We used to switch it off at the wall for 30 secs, then turned it back on, left it another 10 seconds and it used to reset itself without losing all the programmes. If it happens more than a couple times again, get them to come and replace the box.

Enid - I hope you don't have the same problem!

MumofMonsters - it was last Wednesday's I recorded so it won't be shown again, sadly.

Ali5 - I went through the usual 'turn it off and on again' first but that didn't work. I ended up having to unplug it, hold down the backup button and plug it in again, then wait for 20 minutes while it downloaded the upgrade. That's what erased the programmes. It wasn't a problem with the box but a download from Sky themselves.
