About Christmas gift packaging?

I've started the task of putting all the gifts away... we've got some nice things we'll enjoy, alcohol, chocolate, etc. But why is it in so much packaging??

Any other time of year (e.g. for a birthday) someone would just buy DH a couple of nice bottles of beer. But at Christmas, they all have to be in some kind of excessive gift packaging e.g. "Guinness gift set", which is basically a Guinness enveloped in a ton of cardboard which apparently makes it more of a gift. Same with the chocolate etc. The packaging which has come off it all is truly excessive.

Drives me potty, including all the tins as well that stuff comes in. DH wants to keep them as they’ll be useful Hmm

I strip them out the packages straight into recycling!

The amount of packaging is ridiculous. I hope people watched and learnt from Blue Planet.

Gives me the rage, it's so wasteful, i feel that way all the time about packaging, cereal comes in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box, delivered to supermarket in a cardboard box shrink wrapped in plastic. Christmas it's ten times worse
