To ask for your perfect NYE home alone?

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 01:18

I am socialised-out for 2017. I am very gladly staying home alone with my dog for NYE. Grin I’d still like to do something a bit different, though.

I’m sure there must be others in the same boat. What’s your perfect NYE set-up - food, drinks, entertainment, music? What do you do (or would you do)?

(Personally, I’m in Aus so open fires and hot chocolate won’t be happening!)

Staying in here too!! I'd much rather see the new year in quietly curled up in bed with DH (assuming both dds are actually in their own beds and asleep - currently 1.40 am and the 3 month old is wide awake!!) than go round my parents and listen to them all squabble. We normally do new year there, but as I'm breastfeeding and can't drink it has zero appeal.

Might get DH to do the camembert wrapped in Bacon for our little treat. We planned to have that Christmas eve but day was chaotic. I might try to express tomorrow morning so I can have a disarrono or two in the evening.
Ideally I'd like to curl up with DH, talk about all the things we want to do next year (realistic and wishlist) etc. Realistically we'll flick through the TV and amazon prime for ages trying to find something to watch before settling on the same old stuff.

GottadoitGottadoit · 31/12/2017 01:49

I am staying in alone. DD going for a sleepover. I have champagne. I will probably be drink by 10.30.

TopazPolly · 31/12/2017 02:06

My kids are away at their dads so the dog and I are going to have a lovely steak probably followed by cheese and biscuits and some decent wine. ( I'm not giving the wine to the dog, that's just for me). Tv will probably be rubbish so will watch a couple of films and that will be it.

Oh and I might get my new notebook out and write a list of all the things I want to accomplish in 2018. If I am still sober enough and can be bothered! 2017 has been tricky, hoping next year is better

XmasStartsInNovember · 31/12/2017 02:15

Nice picky bits (cheese, smoked salmon etc), a bottle of wine/ champagne or cocktails, and a good film.
I’m actually really jealous, I was talked in to going out this year and I’m dreading it already.

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 31/12/2017 02:52

I’m in Australia too, and I ‘m excited for my night in! I’ve said no to two parties to achieve it!

My plans are to:

  • finish the ‘social stuff’ (thank you cards for Christmas and HNY texts),
  • look over my resolutions and plans for last year, see what I kept and reflect on what I still might need to work on,
  • write down some resolutions and plans for next year,
  • then settle down with a book that I have been specifically saving to read, which I might stay awake until 3am to finish, or go to bed early, just depending on how I feel.

Dinner will be a tray of my favourite hors d’oeuvres and chilled white wine. (So easy to eat one handed as I read!). I may or may not have a cheeky midnight swim if the weather stays this hot....

And that’s my plan! With no clean up or hangover the next day.

I have friends currently trying to talk me into going out, but really - doesn’t this sound better than high heels (sore feet), loud music and the NYD hangover???

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 03:17

NorthStar, sounds great!

My biggest issue with going out NYE is trying to get home. Just impossible, and very $$$.

What are you having to eat? (Nosy! Smile)

HuskyMcClusky transport home is one of the huge reasons I dislike going out on NYE. It’s bad enough in Christmas party season, but seeing full taxi after full taxi whizz by (and no public transport) when I have sore feet and just want to get home...... If I knew I could leave when I wanted too, that might make a night out slightly more appealing. But not this year!

I’m doing smoked salmon and a cream cheese mixture on melba toasts, baked Brie and sun dried tomatoes with biscuits and mini BLTs also on the Melba toast. These are my favourites, easy to make ahead and then eat over the course of the evening, they can be easily eaten with one hand, and (apart from the Brie) are cold, so they suit our current weather perfectly. I have all the ingredients in the fridge, but this conversation is making me think I should make a few now.....just as testers for tonight, you understand Wink

HuskyMcClusky · 31/12/2017 03:43

That sounds delicious!! 😛

Definitely get some testers going...wouldn’t want them to be off. Wink

I'm home with the dog too, as kids at their Dads. We shall have steak and cheese Grin 🐕

Themiscyra · 31/12/2017 04:07

Also Australia. Weather glorious today- although avoiding beach cos it’ll be manic with people placeholding for the fireworks.

Steaks on the bbq shortly with avos, refried beans and roasted capsicum(peppers).

Followed post dc bedtime by chocolate and wine and cold meats cheese and biccies (crackers)
Might have to dig out some sundried toms to go with the cheese now too. That sounds delicious.
Might crack out the pannetone which I’ve never had before but someone gave us and I’m determined to try it.

Any recommendations for a good movie? Watched atomic blonde the other night and it was fantastic.

Any recommendations for a good movie?

I second this. Struggling to find anything good on Netflix (although admittedly a bit fussy).

Another in Australia here, only 8 hours to go!

17 year old DD is off to a party, so DP & I will be in for the night trying to find something not too crappy to watch on telly whilst trying to stay awake until midnight to watch the televised Sydney fireworks. display.

Thankfully, it is quite cool here today, so it will be nice to enjoy cooking and eating and being snuggled up on the lounge watching tv without sweating! A perfect night to have 'in'.

Planning on having something spicy to eat since DD won't be here.

Will be thinking about new year's resolutions which will no doubt be forgotten about by January 2nd.

Happy New Year everyone, hope it's a good one!

echt · 31/12/2017 06:45

Another Australian one. Beautiful day here, and going to a friend's tonight for drinks, food and watch the fireworks in the telly. CBA going into town. Despite all this, and grateful for the friend's kind offer, I'm gagging for a NYE on my own as have house guest-itis.

lasketchup · 31/12/2017 06:59

Staying in too with young dd and dog.

I haven’t been out for New Years for 4 years now. It’s great. I hated starting the new year with a hang over always sets the wrong tone.

We will be having a steak dinner and a bottle of naice champagne I got for Christmas. I do dry January then try not to drink at home for as many moths as possible after so best to get it drunk ASAP Lol. I’ll grab some nice finger food and a cheese board and try and keep her up to watch the fireworks.

Literally my idea of a perfect night. I’ve had babysitting offers and party/night out offers but declined both. Expensive, loud, drunk people, not being able to get home without taking out a bank loan. No thanks.

On New Year’s Day well take the dog for a nice long morning walk and make plans for the year.

I’ve had a pretty amazing year but now I’m scarred as to how to make this one even better as all the things I focused on this year I’ve achieved and I’m actually content.

Themiscyra · 31/12/2017 12:10

Hour to go. Decided to watch Hancock (on netflix) again.
Can’t beat an old favourite.
Watching French and Saunders now. That’ll see in the new year.
