While I go to bed? DH is in pub not sure what time he's due home. D.C. are 11 and 9. First post so please be kind, and although I'm asking I probably won't go to bed.

Why do you need to go to bed?
Are you ill?
If they sensible sure why not..they will know where to find you.

missmapp · 29/12/2017 19:11

Are you on a shift pattern and need to sleep ? Can't they go to bed too? Mine are ten and twelve and I'm just doing baths for them. They will happily play in their rooms or read in bed for a bit , can yours do that?

crunched · 29/12/2017 19:12
Confused I should think your DC will be delighted. They can raid the Christmas chocolate and choose some rubbish TV programme.
Purplesky2 · 29/12/2017 19:13

I think it is fine. Or get ready for bed and sleep on the sofa go a while.

isernamesarerubbish · 29/12/2017 19:13

Not on a shift pattern, just weary and wanting to go to bed to read in peace.

OP posts:
Bobbins43 · 29/12/2017 19:14

Oh, God, yes. Go go. Tell them to shout up if they need you and get yourself to bed.

isernamesarerubbish · 29/12/2017 19:15

Thanks folks, I will go and make sure the front door is locked, internal doors are open and yes, they do know where to find me!

OP posts:
Doilooklikeatourist · 29/12/2017 19:16

Yep , tell them where you are
Go , have some peace

CorbynsBumFlannel · 29/12/2017 19:17

I wouldn't but I would size on the sofa or have us all go up and let the kids read/play for a bit in their rooms so not sure what the difference is?

CorbynsBumFlannel · 29/12/2017 19:17

*snooze on the sofa

isernamesarerubbish · 29/12/2017 19:25

D.C. wanted to watch game shakers on sky downstairs, I want to read in peace. However just as I put my nightie on they came upstairs to get themselves ready for bed, so now we are all upstairs and all right s well with the world.Smile

OP posts:
BackforGood · 29/12/2017 19:25

No. They are too young. Still at an age when they need an adult to remind them to go to bed.

Why can't you read on the settee until they go to bed ?

KarmaStar · 29/12/2017 19:28

If you're happy they're not going to try and cook themselves somehing😊
Or pop round to a friend's then no harm going upstairs to read with the door open....and all alcohol out of reach.
Have a lovely evening OP🌻p

balsamicbarbara · 29/12/2017 19:32

Surely your children are of the age where they're up and doing stuff downstairs in the morning before you're up so no real difference if it's happening in the evening instead for once in my opinion.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 29/12/2017 19:37

Would people really not leave kids this age downstairs?! My 5 year old regularly takes herself off to her room if she wants to play with some toys on her own, really can't see an issue

Mumof56 · 29/12/2017 19:39

No. They are too young

At 11 and 9 Hmm

gingercat02 · 29/12/2017 19:42

My 9 yo gets up about 7am everyday. At weekends he plays on his ps watches telly has breakfast etc until one of us gets up. If I made him go to bed now in the holidays he would be horrified. I would however leave him downstairs if I was upstairs it happens frequently

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 29/12/2017 19:42

At 11 years old aren't most children making their own way to school. I definitely was and most children I know are.

Rossigigi · 29/12/2017 19:44

Is this a joke? Seriously? They are in the house not two streets away! What's the difference to them being up stairs and you sleeping on the sofa to you being upstairs and they on the sofa???
Sorry but some people need to get a grip.

BoomBoomsCousin · 29/12/2017 19:44

Why would it be a problem for a 9 and 11 year old to be downstairs on their own while you read in another room?

RainbowWish · 29/12/2017 19:47

Double check the door is locked and go and get some you time OP They will love having the tv to themselvesSmile

Steeley113 · 29/12/2017 19:49

I let my 5 and 2 year old stay downstairs while I do stuff upstairs. How does anyone get anything done (or 5 minutes peace?) if they don’t?

MiltonTheChristmasCockroach · 29/12/2017 19:49

UPDATE FROM OP

"However just as I put my nightie on they came upstairs to get themselves ready for bed, so now we are all upstairs and all right s well with the world"

(and 11 and 9 is okay to be downstairs by themselves while you read upstairs)

arethereanyleftatall · 29/12/2017 19:58

I would. In fact I've had a siesta every day this holidays for about an hour. Dc are 6&8.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 29/12/2017 20:00

I don't think it's the being left downstairs alone thing it's more if the op was heading up for the night what time would they put themselves to bed?
