NYE in London with kids?

I know this isn’t an AIBU but I need some advice pretty quickly!

Very last minute we are finding ourselves going to London 30th Dec to 1st Jan. We are staying in Waterloo. I think our hotel is approx 15 min walk from Southbank. There’s me and my DP and our 8 year old, and we’ll be meeting up with family which includes another 8 year old. Both 8 year olds are very mature and will be fine to stay out until midnight.

I see that you need tickets to see the fireworks on NYE. Is there anywhere else we can see the fireworks from in a public place? Any child friendly events/parties/restaurants with a view? If we’re unable to see the fireworks on NYE, is there anything else you can suggest we do to see in the new year?

Any suggestions of things to do on 30th & 1st also greatly appreciated.

If you're staying on the Southbank you should be able to see them from your hotel.

We were hoping to be out & about until midnight, but will check if anything is happening at the hotel.

It can be very crowded in central London on NYE with a not inconsiderable amount of drunkenness and associated behaviour. Also there tends to be a one way system for pedestrians in some areas close to the river and if you get trapped in one it is a long walk. Be thoughtful about where you head to.
