Mine was from my mum, who admittedly has been estranged from me by mutual agreement for most of the year. Then I got engaged and she was all over that for all of the ten minutes it took her to remember she didn't actually like me very much.

It was a single email, entitled 'Happy Boxing Day'.

The 'body' of the text said:

'Sorry I've not been in touch'

Confused no explanation. And WTF says Happy Boxing Day?!!

DP's mum sent no card or missive but did pass on a box of Family Circle biscuits. (No, she's not struggling financially but doesn't 'do' being mum)

At the wedding they're both going to be on the Shit Mums Table.

Any toppers?

Aw *Harriet :(

Huge congratulations on your engagement! Really pleased for you :)

Thanks Paris! Smile

I'm trying to see the funny side. The SMT will be by the toilets and may well rub out of fizz for the toast.

Look on the bright side, you are going to be so much better as a mother, and with so little effort. You'll be like some kind of sainted paragon by comparison. Grin

Congratulations!

Don't invite her to the wedding.

After the wedding send her a postcard from your honeymoon with the short message: "We're married! Sorry we've not been in touch.'

Don't invite her to the wedding

This.

My mum topped my wedding with "its not fair that I am alone and have no one while you get married" ... She had 3 friends (who we barely knew but would keep her company) on the day, I paid to feed, water and bus them from the church to the reception and she had been divorced from my dad for 18 years, which was instigated by her.

Shit mum's are just that. Shit. And they only serve to ruin important and happy events.

Congratulations on getting engaged btw, what a thoroughly lovely christmas present Flowers
