Can an ovarian cyst delay period?

Posting for some advice for me my sister.

I have a small cyst on my ovary and over the last few weeks have experienced bloating and lots of cramping. My period is also 2 week late. I’ve done 4 pregnancy tests and they are all negative, however have been having early pregnancy like symptoms.
Anybody had anything similar?

Well those sound like pregnancy symptoms. What brand of pregnancy test are you using?

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 27/12/2017 16:56

no, i find it makes them more painful though

Neverexpected2 · 27/12/2017 16:57

Mine did. Clear blue gave positive tests. Dr ones negative. Sent for tests as a result and found to have a large ovarian cyst that I had surgery to remove

My periods came back once I had a large ovarian cyst removed. I went from nothing at all to regular as clockwork.

She’s used just about every brand of test! She’s trying to get a gp appointment but they are so hard to get here. She’s very worried she’s pregnant but I don’t think she would have 4 negative tests.

Op, cramping may be caused by that cyst twisting due to gravity. It can cut off blood supply causing failure of period and severe swelling. Can be dangerous and can result in loss of ovary & fall. tube in extreme circumstances.

If the cramps get worse or cannot be walked off, your Dsis needs an ultrasound check. No need to panic but do not underestimate this. If she can't get a GP appt, and is in pain, go to a&e.

I had similar, it could well be the cyst.

Ok thankyou, I will try and get her to go tomorrow. Last time she got fobbed off by a male doctor who told her it was ovulation pain. As if she didn’t know what ovulation pain felt like. She’s been having periods for 20 years!
