To ask for help with holidays?

Posting for traffic, and for much needed MN inspiration!

I’ve just started a new job and I’m reslly limited on when I can take holiday. I have one specific week with which to fit in a family holiday, starting 28th April. I’m struggling to find anywhere short haul with guaranteed good weather (we went to the canaries the same week a few years ago and it was cold, wet and windy so DH won’t entertain that again). So I’ve decided to think outside the box and do something not weather-dependent, but I’m really struggling!

The criteria is that it must be outside of the uk, for a maximum of 7 nights, not involving ridiculous amounts of travel. Hoping you lovely mumsnetters can suggest something fun, enjoyable and a bit different! Any suggestions gratefully received Smile

We went to Spain on and Explore Family Activity holiday at that time of year. We were mostly lucky with the weather, but all the activities were designed to be good whatever the weather. We've done several with them since. Every one excellent.

We’ve been to Fuerteventura that week, twice. The weather has been red hot and very sunny. It’s a bit windy in the early morning (before 10ish) and later on at night, but other than that it was glorious.

I think you must have been really unlucky to have had bad weather for the whole week.

I know you said not the canaries, but we went to Lanzarote a week later than that this year and it was hot and sunny every single day - barely any wind and not a drop of rain!

I also think you were unlucky with the canaries. That's probably your best bet. Otherwise for guaranteed sun, the nearest is probably in North Africa or the Middle East at that time, although instability cuts down the places I would take children too, unfortunately. I hate Dubai but it would probably do the job. Or Oman.

Dubai? Legoland, kidzania, beaches, water parks, weather. We enjoyed it when we went.

RestingGrinchFace · 26/12/2017 18:20

Why don't you go for a city break. Maybe Paris. You can take them to all the art galleries if the weather is bad and make a day trip to Versailles/givenchy or something if the weather is good.

ShotsFired · 26/12/2017 18:24

The Middle East is doable in about 6 hours and you can get some ace deals. Weather is pretty much guaranteed.

Just depends whether you can accept the regimes/treatment of women/workers etc. I'm not judging you, but it is a consideration.

Tenerife (south)

We went and had temps of 25 most days except the one day which was 35. It was cloudy but warm. Only a 4 hour flight too.

Malta? Cyprus?

Menorca? Although season may just be about to start so it may not be in full swing. We went 2 years ago at the start of May and the weather was great.
