To be so clueless?! (Technology related...)

So we got the DC Kindle Fires for Christmas but I am a bit clueless as to how to set them up! I’m an iPad/iPhone girl so the kindle fire is all a bit new to me....until now the kids have just had access to my old iPad with kids YouTube on. It’s been dead easy as I know they can only access appropriate content and they can also search by voice. The main issue has been refereeing whose turn it is to have control of the iPad!

What I want is for them to be able to access their kindle fires themselves to watch tv shows/videos or to play games, but without them being able to purchase (accidentally or otherwise!) anything without me giving permission. When I put parental controls on, it seemed to require my password to access anything, even just fire for kids.

Surely there is a way to restrict any purchases but for them to be able to use the fire by themselves to browse and watch and play? Am I best to use fire for kids or not bother with that? (There will be a monthly subscription cost once the month free trial is up).

I have amazon prime so there is a lot of stuff included in that membership, but as the tablets are linked to my account I think without some controls in place they could easily tap on buy or rent without even realising?.....

Please help with any tips and pointers!!
