To passionately hate my kitchen!

I seriously can not deal with my kitchen, DH is sick of my ranting so I've taken to here!
The kitchen is STUPID!!!!
The utility room door opens on to the fridge, so if you are in the fridge and someone comes through the door you get smacked in the back of the head. If someone pops into the utility room you literally have to stand and wait for them to come out before getting into the fridge.
The dishwasher in the middle of the kitchen. I mean wtf. So if the dishwasher is open it literally blocks off half the kitchen. You can be making something to eat someone else opens the dishwasher to put a spoon or something in and then you have to stand and wait before being able to cross the kitchen.
The oven door opens out into the table so you have to move the table to get the food out.
It was like this when we moved in and we don't have a seperate dining room unfortunately. We are planning on moving again next year so little point changing anything but AIBU to think this kitchen was designed by an idiot?

Sounds very annoying and some of the things are definitely design faults, but perhaps it wasn't designed to have a table in it? That might solve the oven door and dishwasher issues?

I do sympathise though - we have a slide-out larder unit in one corner, so you have to completely shut the door to the hall before you can open it.

At least you'll know what to look for (and avoid) in your new kitchen!

Could you not switch the fridge and dishwasher? Then, if someone used the utility room, all you'd have to do was open the dishwasher, and they wouldn't be able to come back and bother you until you were good and ready.

Get one of those round tables where the chairs to completely under it when not in use?

BangAndTheDirtyScone · 23/12/2017 17:22

Oh sorry that's not the right link at all

Knittedfairies · 23/12/2017 17:26

Could you remove the door to the utility room?

BangAndTheDirtyScone · 23/12/2017 17:29

Or a self closing half door, cowboy saloon style? My nain had one in her 80stastic kitchen.

Dizzybeez · 23/12/2017 19:17

meredintofpandiculation Sadly not as the fridge freezer is a full length one and not an under counter one.
BangAndTheDirtyScone thank you for the link! We have two small children and use the booster seats with harnesses so unfortunately need proper dining chairs otherwise we would need proper high chairs which would take up even more room!
Knittedfairies have definitely considered this but the utility is like an out house so very, very cold. It's also a bit of a dumping ground for all the stuff we have nowhere to store. We have outgrown this house really.
I forgot to add as well if you are sat at the table and need a drink the person on one side needs the other person to move it get the glass and the other side person needs them to move or go the fridge to get a drink. Argh it's a nightmare!
