Libraries are usually lovely and warm and quiet. I love libraries 😍

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 23/12/2017 13:43

Whereabouts in N London

Chilver · 23/12/2017 13:43

South bank Centre. Will be busy, but if you go to the upper floors they are quiet and have seats for anyone to sit down. Go up the singing lift!!

happyinherts · 23/12/2017 13:45

Chilver - the OP is in N London

SongsOfInnocence · 23/12/2017 13:53

The reading room in the Institut Français

WildCherryBlossom · 23/12/2017 13:54

It's not north but central: the National Gallery. Quite a lot of people but hushed voices and peaceful with lots of seats

MrsMarigold · 23/12/2017 13:56

Old men pubs. Sit and read and relax

JennyHolzersGhost · 23/12/2017 13:56

British Library ?

Lackingimagination6 · 23/12/2017 13:59

National portrait gallery is my favourite. If you are further north go deep into the British museum (past the crowds).

Let us know whereabouts you are and we will think of more ideas. London is big!

Lackingimagination6 · 23/12/2017 14:00

The Barbican is another great one for me. The library is good if you like it really quiet but I prefer the foyer areas for a gentle hum.

palmfronds · 23/12/2017 14:01

Definitely libraries, but hotel foyers can be a good place too

Littlelondoner · 23/12/2017 14:09

Keats house in hampstead or thr little cafe on the heath.

Or large glass wine in an old mans pub by the fire.

Fenton house museum in hampstead.

Wrap up warm and go for a wander in a cemmetary earily beautiful. Brompton or highgate.

All places I go to if I need peace and to clear my head.

Further a field. I love walking by the river. Richmond, kew, hampston court way.

Hope you sort your head out and find a quiet spot.

Tentomidnight · 23/12/2017 14:16

Waterstones, any branch. They have seats and a sense of calm.

Ha bloody ha! Not in West London they ain't! Cannot hear myself think in our local ones!

hettie · 23/12/2017 16:19

How far north? Id say national library nr St pancras ....The welcome institute on the same Rd but more towards Paddington used to have a library/gallery open to the public...

JT05 · 23/12/2017 16:33

Kenwood house and a walk round the gardens.

DottyDotAgain · 23/12/2017 16:37

If you're anywhere near Dollis Hill, then Gladstone Park is lovely - spent many a time at the top of the park sitting and thinking - lovely walled garden and benches so you can overlook London.

Unfinishedkitchen · 23/12/2017 17:37

Mrsmarigold is right. Old mans pubs are the best for this type of thing.

Lovejoyfull · 24/12/2017 22:54

The library in The Wellcome Institute is small, warm, peaceful and very beautiful.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/12/2017 23:05

A church for midnight mass!

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 24/12/2017 23:58

Hope you're okay OP Flowers how are you doing?

Cosmic123 · 25/12/2017 08:17

Not sure where in North London you are but Hornsey Library in crouch end is lovely and quiet. They have a silent room upstairs and an art gallery with sofas in that nobody ever seems to be in. I agree with one poster though some libraries are not peaceful at all. I went to one in south London where I work and it was like a social gathering for raucous teenagers. The security guard (I know) was trying to persuade two of them not to race through the library on wheelie chairs with little success. Tate Britain is lovely and quiet as are most art galleries. I hope everything is ok. I know Christmas can be very stressful 🙄
