Car clamped!

Obloody · 22/12/2017 11:53

Someone has parked outside my clearly labelled disabled access dropped kerb, line painted on the floor gate!! AND BEEN CLAMPED! I called the dvla that did the clamping and they said they can't do anything, so I'm blocked in my own drive, unable to move until this person, taxes and pays for their car to be released?! Surely the DVLA should come and move it??

Oh no!

Florene · 22/12/2017 11:56

101 and explain that you are unable to get out of your drive. They may arrange to have car recovered.

MagentaRocks · 22/12/2017 12:02

If the vehicle has been clamped I don’t know how it can be recovered. I would ring DVLA back and insist they do something, realistically even if the owner turns up they won’t get the clamp removed straight away so it could be days before it is moved.

I insist on speaking to someone higher up at DVLA if you don’t get anywhere. I can understand them clamping cars that are on the road illegally but to do it when the car is blocking a drive is ridiculous.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 22/12/2017 12:04

Police! It’s illegal to prevent access to the road.

SadTrombone · 22/12/2017 13:13

Definitely cal 101 xx

onemouseplace · 22/12/2017 13:23

Yes, call 101 - there have been cars clamped by the DVLA left for weeks round here.

Obloody · 22/12/2017 13:26

I called the DVLA again and they said that the car is registered to my house!! Only me and my husband live here.. for the past 6 years! Will call 101 now and see what they say
Thank you all x

Shock

How can it be registered to your address? Surely that would mean you had signed a V5 as a new owner of it?

Hissy · 22/12/2017 13:38

You can look this up online I think? call the police on 101

Hissy · 22/12/2017 13:38

Has someone bought you a car as a gift?? Grin

Caulk · 22/12/2017 13:39

Does it say why it’s been clamped? I’ve only seen cars clamped due to no tax and it saying in big writing all over it NO TAX

Obloody · 22/12/2017 13:52

It doesn't say- the dvla said no tax! And if someones got me a gift it's a rubbish one a 1997 astra haha
DVLA saying they can't do anything until 24hours later

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 22/12/2017 13:55

I believe the mumsnet thing to do is get the local rugby team to shift it or tow it with a tractor...

Flowers hope you get it sorted.

Hissy · 22/12/2017 13:57

rugby team you say.... Grin

Hissy · 22/12/2017 13:58

call 101, if the DVLA can't do anything, the police surely can get the car taken away for being an obstruction...

Valerrie · 22/12/2017 14:00

Police. Tell them you're disabled and need to get to the hospital.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 22/12/2017 14:00

How has it been registered to your address? That is a real worry.

SandyDenny · 22/12/2017 14:01

101 should be interested in this as someone might be doing some kind of identity theft if they've registered it at your address or maybe some neighbour with fat fingers has mistyped your house number when they registered the car.

Do you live somewhere with house numbers? I assume it's your address but not your name, the police should be able to track them down you'd think

ClaudiaWankleman · 22/12/2017 14:08

Police. Tell them you're disabled and need to get to the hospital

No - don't be a prick and undermine the needs of genuinely disabled people.

ClaudiaWankleman · 22/12/2017 14:09

Oh oh oh, wait - I see OP is disabled (or presume?) - but they still don't need to get to hospital...

Valerrie · 22/12/2017 14:10

I'm disabled thanks and I'm not undermining anyone. The OP said she has a dropped kerb for disabled access so presumably she is too.

Obloody · 22/12/2017 14:18

Police said they will send someone out to have a look- but it's a busy time of the year so they don't know when, I've called a taxi! - yes I am disabled.
I've not had any letters for anyone else here so I don't know how they've registered it to me! Suspicions are arising- my ndn are drug dealers, And forever have cars outside

OP posts:
Julie8008 · 22/12/2017 14:30

Is is the actual car that is registered to your address. Or could it be the clamping itself that was registered to your address.

Does the DVLA really give our details to Joe Public as to where cars are registered? I would have thought that was against the data protection act.

TyneTeas · 23/12/2017 13:44

Did you get sorted OP?

Raindancer411 · 23/12/2017 17:04

One of the people who lived up the road from us when I was shall did the same thing to my dad, only they somehow managed to even get themselves tagged on to my dads breakdown cover too!!!
