My PIL are both very lovely people and arrived last Tuesday to stay over Xmas. The problem is they seem to have no noise control! I have a 4 1/2 month old baby and tonight was putting him to bed. We're not in UK and it's very hot here at the moment so I had the door to his room open. Mran while the PIL were talking very loudly over the TV which was on high volume. FIL was stomping around bangling doors and they then decided to carry on a conversation between rooms! Needless to say it was impossible to get DS to sleep.

They are such lovely people I don't want to offend them. I don't think they realise how noisy they are! FIL has a very loud voice and I can hear him from the other side of the house with all the doors closed. What can I do?! I can't ask them to sit in silence!

Gosh it's like people completely forget what having a baby is like! I remember having to tip-toe around my brother and cousins as a child, I had strict times where tv could not be on so as not to disturb nap time etc. Lo and behold I have a baby and every time my family turns up they hammer on the door, scream and shout - even when I have called / texted to say the baby is asleep!! Must be tough having them to stay! I guess all you can do is ask for some quiet while you put the baby to bed - maybe turn down the telly before you leave the room, take baby round to say 'Good night' to everyone so they are aware it's bedtime? Hopefully they will be a bit more considerate then.
