I phoned up the EA that deals with my flat the morning because I've been without heating or hot water since Sunday they said someone would phone me up to arrange to come round today to fix the boiler again I waited all day and I've had no phone call and no one's been round so I'm still without heating or hot water I'm huddling under blankets to keep warm. AIBU to be pissed off with the EA.

No YANBU! I'd have hounded them all day!

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/12/2017 18:27

@snackarella I really should've but I really thought someone would come out it's not the first time the boiler has packed in on me and I'm not phoning them up tomorrow just to sit in all day on my birthday if they won't turn up again.

Call them again now. Be a pain in the arse.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/12/2017 18:33

@GertrudeCB I will do I'll leave them a load of voicemails until they send someone round they have no idea how cold it is in here.

They should have an out of hours number for you to ring?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/12/2017 18:39

@lastqueenofacotland I don't think they do have an out of hours number.

Never assume! Everyone is rubbish unless they're hounded! Call first thing tomorrow if no out of hours and make a fuss!
Good luck x

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/12/2017 18:50

@snackarella I won't be making that mistake again. I will be phoning up as soon as they open and I will keep phoning until it's fixed. Thank you xx

So presumably you phoned when you first had a problem...which would have been Sunday?

I'm not really sure if the time line here. Confused

It's likely the letting agent count contact a heating engineering until Monday. It would be reasonable for them to find someone to fix it by Wednesday. The letting agent can only do their best to find someone to fix it. I have several homeowner friends atm who have broken radiators/boilers but can get anyone out to fix it right now.

Yes, I agree you need to be assertive and make sure you're not forgotten. Agreeing on Monday morning that you will wait for a call on Thursday is too laid back unless you are away for Christmas. Being cold is horrid. Can you go in to the letting agent personally and ask them to find someone to come out to you while you're there?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 21/12/2017 19:07

@LynetScarvo I didn't phone up on Sunday because the heating stopped working at 9pm and I had been using it before then I've only just had chance to phone because I've been busy working and running round doing last minute things for Christmas so today was the only chance I had to phone them up they are normally really fast at sorting problems out but not today.

OK, I see you were too busy doing Christmas things/working to contact the letting agent until today. Maybe they have staff illness and are short staffed or something if, as you say, they are normally quick at sittings things.
But they rely on a heating engineer being available....if no one is available tomorrow you might not get someone until next Wednesday. They can't force someone to cone to your house to fix it. Heating engineers celebrate Christmas too. And they can't ask someone to come out to you if they don't know there's a problem, which they didn't, until today.

confusedlittleone · 21/12/2017 19:46

So your boiler packed up on Sunday and your complaining that you've been without heating since then- but you only decided to tell them it wasn't working today?

chickenowner · 21/12/2017 19:50

If you've had no heating since Sunday and you've only phoned them today then it doesn't sound like an emergency.

As for being too busy to phone, that's just ridiculous.

You need to give the letting agent time to send someone round. As a PP has said this is a very busy time of year for heating engineers and it is extremely unlikely that they could have sorted this out on the same day that you let them know about it.

Why on earth didn't you let them know at 9am on Monday?

This sounds like it's entirely your fault. Take some responsibility for goodness sake!

Doesitgoto11 · 21/12/2017 20:54

I have to admit I don't understand why you only called them today not when the issue first came up on Sunday Confused I'd have rung and at least left a message.

Besides that, every letting agent I've ever been with have an 'emergency' number on their answerphone (whether that's direct to a contractor who can cover most issues or a member of the letting team who's on call).

Tbh I think you're BU since you expect it sorted stat despite leaving it over 4 days....
