To hate The Range Christmas adverts?

If anyone has not seen them, they are all about two families competing with each other to buy the best Christmas stuff. I hate the way this advert is trying to encourage us to compete with neighbours and others.

It's a tactic to get us buying, emotional blackmail in a way, like all those perfect nuclear family 'if your Xmas doesn't look like this you've failed' adverts the big retailers pump out.

Ugh.

Yes it is, and I hate it. Yes kids like Christmas presents, but life is about much more than just buying stuff.

Shit shop too

It has some good stuff. It is like woolworths used to be. EXcept woolworths did not try and emotionally blackmail mainly poorer people.

Yanbu, I despise the ad (I've only seen once). It encapsulates the very worst essence of Christmas. That may sound hyperbolic but I mean it genuinely. There are lots of great and wonderful things about the Christmas spirit but there are some downsides too and this ad manages to zero in on that negative side. The stress, the consumerism, the oneupmanship. Awful.

My neighbour is a single guy who puts no decorations up at all. Therefore I only have to put up my tiny tree and I've 'won' Grin
