Learning to drive

2017 was going to be the year I passed my driving test. I failed 4 times. 🙁 The last test (in September)I failed spectacularly in my own car and a week later my car broke down and is almost unroadworthy. I haven't set foot in a car since September and now the driving test has changed. They've added new manoeuvres and made the test harder. When I think about how much money I have spent I just want to cry. I honestly don't know what to do next and feel too humiliated to contact my driving instructor. I also can barely afford/have barely any time for anymore lessons. DH wants me to continue in the new year but I don't know if I can face it. My theory test has also run out. I honestly don't know what to do now.

You'll get lots of posters telling you to keep going as it's selfish not to drive etc, but you know what it's not for everyone. I'm in my 30s and don't drive. I do however ride a 125 bike so I don't need lifts and can get to places off the bus route. Have you thought about trying that? I like you learned in my late teens, failed four tests and found th whole thing incredibly traumatic. It's not the be all and end all, don't put yourself through it if you really hate it :)

Life is easier if you can drive, so if there's any way you can continue, please try. They've taken one or two things out of the driving test too, so try to think of it as "different" rather than "more difficult".

You probably need to try to keep driving, but that depends on what your DH is like as an accompanying person.

There's no reason to feel humiliated - there's no virtue in passing the test, and a good deal is down to your luck on the day.

Try to analyse what it is that is difficult for you - that may give you some clues as to where to go from here.

Albatross-I absolutely hate it! Tbh I never wanted to learn in the first place, had very little interest but loads of pressure from Dh to learn. I am in my late 30's. I find the whole experience extremely traumatic 🙁
