To give myself a New Years resulotion that I will probably cave on?

But actually I want to achieve it.

I want to go teetotal for 2018. Just because. I have maybe 2 glasses of wine on a friday or saturday, plus 2 light beers in the week. If i go out with the girls I have a couple of G&Ts and two or three cocktails.

But I hate that "fuck me i need a glass of wine tonight" mentality that I find myself in and I hate the ever expanding waistline that comes from the crap food and snacks that acompany the alcohol.

I also really want to give myself a proper challenge. Because I want to test my resolve.

However I am really bad at setting myself up for big changes and folding after a week.

But I waaaaaant to do this.

Could you start with Dry January and see how it goes? Might help if you apply some external pressure.

After a month you ought to have found good non-alcoholic alternatives and avoidance strategies so you'll be in a better position to choose to continue.

It may be easier not to think of yourself as a non-drinker but as someone who only drinks on special occasions. But keep an eye on those special occasions so they're genuinely "sister's wedding toast" and not just "Friday".

Yeah thats a good idea. I rarely go out on nights out so maybe even a No Drink in Houses rule would work too.

Dry jan is a great start.

Or a resolution to only drink on Friday and Saturday nights? I think there is no point resolving to be dry for whole of 2018 when you are already talking about not managing it.

I did a dry September and it was pretty easy. We drink at weekends only, usually a couple of glasses of red, and I really thought I'd miss it but I actually didn't. I'm definitely doing dry January as I want to lose some weight and it's the first thing I need to change in order to do that.

What is your home set-up?

If you have a partner and/or kids it is more difficult. But not impossible.

If you are single, whatever you put in the fridge or larder or wine rack is how it will be.

I woke up one day and just did it. It gets easier. Its like alcohol in reverse.

I got hooked on water.

And didn't drink alcohol for eight years.
