I’ve just been called on my mobile no demanding I confirm my name he was an older man and seemed very aggressive when I declined to answer he demanded who was on the phone.

Why could this information be required possibly for crime?

Could just be an old confused guy, I don't know, doubt they could do much with just a name but maybe they'd ask for more. Sounds like just a confused man though

Seeline · 19/12/2017 15:28

When this happens to me I just say, well you rang me, who do you think you're talking to?
If they are genuine it normally proceeds in a more friendly way.
If not - hang up.

PavlovianLunge · 19/12/2017 15:30

Sounds like he was confused, putting it mildly. It doesn’t sound like an attempt to clone your phone or start a fraud.

Not very nice for you to have to deal with an aggressive stranger, though.

littlebillie · 19/12/2017 15:37

I’d say 50s and aggressive not elderly

When my mum got her new phone number (years ago when I didn't just have all numbers saved in my phone) I thought it was 07970 instead of 07790 at the start, and dialed that with the rest of the number but within a second realised my mistake, hung up and redialed. A few minutes later after speaking to my mum some self-important goon having the number which was one digit different rang me back and demanded to know why I had called him and all manner of information (which I did not give), seemingly not being satisfied that it was simply a wrong number! He was actually quite creepy.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2017 15:40

That happened to me too, catwoozle Bloke just wouldn't have it, I dialled 1 single number incorrectly. He was irate on the phone and really rude via a text. I blocked him.

He tracked me down via my business facebook page and posted an equally angry message there. A lot of FB friends heaped ridicule upon his head and he deleted his post Smile

catwoozle · 19/12/2017 15:44

Perhaps it's someone being shady with a secret second mobile and they think they've been caught out Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/12/2017 15:48

Grin Poor bloke! Thinks he's being clever and there we are, catching him out!

Glumglowworm · 19/12/2017 16:34

I get people call my work and when I say they’ve called the wrong number “but this is the number I always call” Well clearly it isn’t because you normally get whoever you’re actually trying to call and today you’ve got me so you’ve obviously dialled wrong
