To not want to go to work...

I would normally be working 9-6 today. My kids are already off school. I have a babysitter with them from 9-3, having negotiated an early mark as we really won't be busy today. I found out on Friday that we're having a Christmas get together today, with the boss starting at my office, and then driving the both of us over to the other office (only me and sometimes boss at my office, 5 women at other office) for 11ish, everyone bring a plate, she'll bring fizz, secret Santa presents happening, and then back to my office. It's at least a 40 min drive between offices.

AIBU to just want to be with my children if 11-2 is going to be about the party? I like my colleagues a lot, but don't earn much more than the babysitter, and really wanted to plough through some work. How sad does that sound. Am I being a scrooge?

yabu. Sounds ace! You’ll enjoy it when you get going.

I don’t want to go to work this week either. I’ve got too much to do at home to be fannying round with quizzes and secret Santa.
I mean, it’s all lovely and everything, but I’ve just gone from self employed to full time and all this partying on company time is a huge culture shock!

Forgot to say, i get paid hourly, so don't even know how much of today I can pout as paid in my timesheet! Certainly not the travel time.

I know believe, I will enjoy it, it does make me feel fidgety though...
