About Wayne Rooney's community service?

Just seen this on the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-42397746

He's helping those with learning difficulties do crafts at a garden centre as part of his community service for drink driving (3 x legal limit). He's found it "relaxing" and "refreshing" and enjoyed it.

AIBU to think he's clearly been given the easy option (no litter picking in the freezing cold with the public giving him hassle), and that he shouldn't be calling it "relaxing" and "refreshing" like it's some kind of holiday?

He has been given the easy option but I suspect it's necessary. If he was doing anything public there would undoubtedly be hassle for the supervisor and others doing the same thing, and potentially a cost involved in keeping him safe. It's not ideal but I can see why the organisers would want to avoid having him too visible, far too much stress for them.

Perhaps a more fitting placement would be to work with quadriplegics who have had their terrible injuries inflicted on them by drunk drivers.

I haven’t seen them litter picking for ages

Most of them do stuff indoor don’t they? All our local charity shops have them in doing stock stuff, moving furniture etc

Don’t think they actually have them grafting anymore

He should have been jailed. I've always believed that it should carry a heavy sentence and a life time driving ban.
It's only by the grace of God that someone wasn't killed due to his selfishness and utter stupidly.
Community work is usually what they give poor souls who can't find work, isn't it.

Yanbu.

SilverySurfer · 18/12/2017 14:44

He's a loathsome little oik and yes, far too easy, surely there must be other community services which are not as obviously enjoyable.

Does it really matter. He's rich and ignorant. He isn't a role model, and whatever they try to teach him about the error of his ways will be lost because he is too rich and out of touch these days to give a stuff.

He had a working class upbringing, but money has taken away any sense of responsibility or connection to RW people, he can just pay his way out of any problem.

Sad.
