Today parents were invited to the school to see the kids perform.
They perfomed a really cute dance BUT the lyrics of the song chorus were
"We drink a schnapps, and then we drink another. And then we drink Tequila to enhance our mood"
(I paraphrase, the song was in german)

The kids are 6-10 years old.

AIBU to think that is not appropriate?

To clarify: It's a german scholl, the kids are all native german speakers.

Old songs had weird lyrics tho. Doubt it will turn the class into alcoholics!

I would, I run a primary school choir and over the years we have changed quite a few lyrics or missed out verses (hallelujah ‘tied her to a kitchen chair’, fields of gold ‘her body moved’ Tipperary became ‘while you’ve a lucifer to light your way’ ) or we avoided songs completely if they were inappropriate, I even refused to do a popular one for young choirs called the tiger when it turns the tiger into a rug in the last verse😡 I certainly wouldn’t do an alcohol referenced one like that.

When my dd came home and sang the pirate song...

I jumped aboard a pirate ship

Blaaake, they asked if people thought they were appropriate for children. They’re not (in my opinion). They didn’t say they were offended but do be nasty just for the sake of it if it makes you feel good.

Actually, I'm "offended" more by the "we drink alcohol to get in a better mood" than the pure mentioning of alcohol.

I still don't see why the school chose this song. It's not traditional, it does not have any special connection to the school, etc.
It did have a nice rhythm, but i'm sure they could have found another song with the same rhythm and more child-appropriate lyrics.

But I'm still sitting on the fence if it's worth an email to the school.
(Tbh there was another incident at the school today that makes me question if they actually think things trough in advance and it is also not the first time that not-age-appropriate media is used in school.)

The real question is: do you want your card marked at the school as an interfering whinyarse, or not?

I think you should complain in writing to the head and governors, possibly cc'ing in OFSTED and your local press and expect a response from the school before Christmas.

Or you could just chill out a bit.

DCs class sang Jessie J's song Domino when they were 7-8 and choreographed moves to go with it.
Everyone was oblivious that the song is about sex. That was a highlight of primary years.
Schnapps and tequila probably wouldn't bother me, but you're right, the message isn't great.

The 'all the boys get randy randy' part made me a bit!

I have just googled Chocolate - one of the opening lines is ‘it makes you sexy’ haha I love that song eve but am very shocked that they teach dance routines to it at Butlins (on non-adult weekends!)

A baby singing group we went to changed the lyrics to that song to a bottle of "fun" in order to not promote alcohol to under 1's ... I always rebelled and sang rum...
