To ask if I should get an iPhone 7 or 8?

I love my iPhone 6 but it's 3 years old & keeps turning itself off -even if it's charged. If this happens the only way to get it to turn back on is to plug it in- so I practically have a land-line again🙈 So my aibu is if I would be unreasonable to get an iPhone 8 64 gb even though it's the same price as an iPhone 7 256gb? Any advice greatly welcomed!!

I would get the latest model as I really do think they have built in obsolescence so if you keep your phones for a while you are best off getting the most recent one. Storage on the cloud is so cheap now I don't see the benefit in having huge amount of storage on your device.

FluffyWuffy100 · 14/12/2017 00:53

I'd get the X

roseretro · 14/12/2017 01:33

I’m in a similar predicament - I have a 6s plus though

iPhone 7 & 8 just don’t really feel like an upgrade - it’s virtually the same device so I feel like sticking with my 6s? I’m just not excited or interested in them

X also has it’s own issues - 2018’s new iPhone 11/10S will improve on the X significantly so I feel silly buying it now? High price for a flawed product but I want something new

Think you should get the 8 over 7 OP

cloudchasing · 14/12/2017 01:34

Get a Samsung. I made the change last upgrade after a lifetime of Apple, and I would NEVER go back.

Skowvegas · 14/12/2017 01:55

I was in the same situation and got the 7 plus. It was a fair bit cheaper than the 8, and I wanted a phone that was waterproof and my old knackered eyes appreciate the bigger screen. I'm really happy with it - I actually hadn't realised how annoying my iPhone 6's quirks were.

Ansumpasty · 14/12/2017 06:50

I'm wondering the same, have the iPhone SE and looking to upgrade in March. Is the 8 not waterproof?

LA678 · 14/12/2017 08:20

I've got the 8 over the 7. Not much difference to be perfectly honest as the operating system is still the same but the camera quality is amazing, both front and back and it's worth it just for the camera alone (I have a LO so am always taking photos of her). 64gb is still a lot of storage so I would personally go for the 8.

MadForlt · 14/12/2017 08:22

Go Android. I've never looked back. I'd recommend the latest oneplus phone, much more affordable but gets as good if not better results in testing than the iPhone. Samsung is of course also a great choice.

Musicaltheatremum · 14/12/2017 08:34

I agree with Madforit, I got the one plus in May the new one is out now. My oneplus3 was about £400. Love it.

poisonedbypen · 14/12/2017 08:37

64 gb would soon be swallowed up. Go Android.

thefutureisours · 14/12/2017 08:43

I was in the same predicament. Ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy s7. Took me a while to get used to it but I love it now.

whattoweartomorrow · 14/12/2017 08:44

I purchased a 6s earlier this year on the grounds I wasn't willing to give up a headphone port and couldn't see much of a difference. This is after years of buying the latest model and keeping it for four years. I hate the idea of being forced to remember to keep Bluetooth headphones charged, a lot of what I use my phone for is listening to music/watching films on the move. I don't think there's as much of a difference, so if I were you I would hold out until it's absolutely necessary.

MadeForThis · 14/12/2017 09:08

You get a headphone adaptor in the box with the 7 so you can use normal headphones.

FeedMyFaceWithBattenberg · 14/12/2017 10:28

I got the 7 plus.
Seems a good compromise!
And it comes in red! 😍😁

gunsandbanjos · 14/12/2017 10:30

I’ve got a 6 and considered upgrading soon, planning on getting 8 or X as I have an Apple Watch so don’t want android.

19lottie82 · 14/12/2017 10:33

64gb will be fine unless you’re planning on storing loads of music / videos. All of that can be stored on the cloud now anyway.

I’d go for the 8.

TheCraicDealer · 14/12/2017 17:48

I was in this boat just after the 8 came out, I got the 7 plus as well. Other phones just seem really dinky to me now Grin

The reviews I read at the time indicated that there weren't many upgrades/improvements and it was more of a "7s" than an 8 iyswim. I wasn't dying about the wireless charging etc so just skipped back to 7 plus which I got at a really good price because it was nolonger the latest model.

I have a samsung for work and I HATE it.

Onynx · 14/12/2017 21:27

Thanks all! Looks like I'm not alone in my dilemma. The 7 plus sounds like a good idea but I must check if I can get it on my network (Three) in Ireland. I'm definitely not ready to go android- my DH has one and I don't find it as intuitive. The 8 I also heard has a glass back to allow for wireless charging but imo that's just something else for me to break🙈 The X is way out of budget so that's definitely not an optionWink

knowsnowt · 14/12/2017 22:07

I upgraded from a 6s to a 7 and I love it. The battery is much better than the 6s. I didn't trust myself with the 8 having a glass front and back! Had 2 screen replacements on the 6s 😂

Snowman41 · 14/12/2017 22:10

You get a headphone adaptor in the box with the 7 so you can use normal headphones.. And a set of EarPods

Northernpowerhouse · 14/12/2017 22:11

Have had the 7 for two months. Very happy with it.

Iwantaunicorn · 14/12/2017 22:15

I've just had the same dilemma, and went for the 8 plus over the 7. Figured the 8 wasn't much more, it was newer, and therefore would last me longer. The 8 plus was just because it's easier to see!

Moodycoo · 14/12/2017 22:21

Check out the iPhone upgrade system .....

DorisDangleberry · 14/12/2017 22:27

Suggest you get an iPhone 9. They are quite exclusive

Onynx · 14/12/2017 22:28

Moody I didn't realise there was one? Is it online?
