laurab249 · 12/12/2017 11:25

Wonder if anyone can help at all?

The doctor has advised that I come off Yasmin as I keep getting really bad headaches.

I have been on yasmin for almost 10 years now with no side effects and it has worked wonder for my acne but only recently started getting a lot of headaches so they have advised that I come off Yasmin and go to an alternative.

Can anyone recommend an alternative contraceptive pill that can help with acne?

Also I have read that when people come off yasmin they get really bad acne, is this a thing? id so i am dreading coming off it, used to get really painful cystic acne1

Any advice/suggestions would be welcomed smile

I was on it for 7 years. Did get more spots off it but not horrific or anything.
If you can, get hold o the USA version of Proactiv. I can't not use it otherwise I get bad acne. It's very good. The British/European version has different ingredients.

I use dianette, have done for years, my skin is oily and full of acne without.

grimeofthecentury · 12/12/2017 11:41

The only thing that's worked for me is Marvelon and hot cloth cleansing

MipMipMip · 12/12/2017 11:46

Into for as minute suggesting this is the solution but I did find www.superdrug.com/2-for-£6-00-on-selected-Neutrogena/Neutrogena-Visibly-Clear-Spot-Stress-Control-Daily-Scrub/p/500070?gclid=CjwKCAiAmb7RBRATEiwA7kS8VJYLXQo15e6s5I7Lzw56j61RdRK3mgxPUF-oIQM4YeNqD1617U7dIhoC5ncQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CIj-_dyyhNgCFc5FGwodc9oAvg helped me a bit. even if it does feel like slime to remove. Not the same as acne but anything is worth trying.

The pill is the only thing that controls my acne, has been awful since a teenager. I didn't get on with Yasmin but Dianette, Femodette, Marvelon and Gedarel (on now) are ones that have worked for me.

SometimesMaybe · 12/12/2017 11:56

I agree re Proactiv - the US version is great but the Uk version is rubbish. I didn’t find the pill that helpful to be honest. I have recently started using Arbonne which is quite expensive but the pads seem to working.

laurab249 · 12/12/2017 12:13

Thanks everyone all great advice!

I had seen proactiv and was tempted but didnt know anyone that had tried it, so i'll defo give the US version a go and also try the Neutrogena and hot cloth idea too :)

Are Dianette, Femodette, Marvelon and Gedarel all combined pills? I've read to avoid progesterone only pills as that aggravates acne?

I've been on roaccutane and various antibiotics in the past so need something to keep it all at bay! Blush

Yes they are all combined pills, just gone back on the gedarel after a while on the mini pill post-baby. My skin is so much better already!

As I understand it they don't like you to take Dianette for more than a few years so I switched to Femodette which is a weaker version but was still effective.

I was given Gedarel as an alternative to Marvelon while they had a manufacturing problem afew years ago but I've stuck with it.

I was recently taken off the combined pill (Cileste, but have been on Yasmin in the past) due to migraines, despite having been on it for years. Has your GP said they will put you on another combined pill, because mine vetoed all saying that they shouldn't be prescribed for migraine/headache sufferers. It's not a particular brand that they think causes them.

I am now on a progesterone only pill (Cirelle) and it's been awful. My skin is terrible and I had acne which I'd got under control with skincare (and possibly the combined pill helped, although my skin had been bad whilst on it, and only really improved when I sorted my skincare out). I'm now very spotty and greasy and can't seem to get it sorted out. I also still get migraines.

IsaSchmisa · 12/12/2017 13:35

My skin wasn't anything like as bad as yours, I pretty much only just qualified for Yasmin iyswim. But I have found it's much better than it was, even since stopping Yasmin. Bit worse than when I was on it but not significantly.

revelsandrose · 16/12/2017 14:48

If they ever stop me from taking dianette I'll become a hermit, I seem to be flying under the radar having been on it for @ 16 years, only having breaks for pregnancies! 🙈

Does anybody know if you can have a second lot of roaccutane, worked wonders in my 20's but skin is quite vile now even with dianette
