T o expect that if PIL invite us around for a meal we will be sitting in the same room as them?

Very weird dinner with PIL (and they are the experts in weird).

Went around, they have invited another 3 people as well - and so they tell me, dh and BIL that we are eating tea off our knees in the living room - they eat in the dining room with ds.

What's the point in inviting people around if you don't talk to them?

Odd, very odd....sounds like a reasonable assumption to me...if I was you i'd be sure to return the favour some time!

Saying that...i'd be happy to not have to see my in-laws when I go visit...they're less annoying that way LOL

by the way, as predicted, my ILs never made it over here - were due to arrive Good Friday but cancelled on the Monday. There's almost a predictability to their unredictability...

What was the most funny was they had us all lining up in their gallery kitchen for the food, and they hadn't met one man before (second husband v. scandalous), when he had seconds he came all the way through the living room again, and back into the hallway and through the kitchen, instead of just popping next door.

No room for 9 around their table, but wouldn't you just invite fewer people or something.

MrsJC - I can't believed they cancelled a chance to see your lovely children. That is weird, but a relief for you.

IF I wanted to invite more people than I had room for at my dining room table I would!

Otherwise people with smaller houses are at an unfair disadvantage !

But what about a finger buffet or something not a sit down meal?

We have through lounge and when PIL's were over from Ireland they wanted to see my parents so I invited them for dinner, there wasn't enough room at the table for everyone so DH and my Dad sat on the sofa's with trays and everyone else sat round the table. I don't think it's odd if the table isn't big enough for everyone.
