MIL woes

My DS is 5 weeks old and my MIL has been coming to see him twice a week (which I really don't mind) BUT she keeps making comments about what I should do with him.

For example, he should be sleeping in his pram - not in my arms. (This she comments on EVERY visit)
I shouldn't have a real Christmas tree with lights on because they burn faster?! Dangerous for DS. Ridiculous.
Keeps him awake when he needs to be asleep resulting in a horrible night where he's so over tired he won't sleep.

I could carry on.

AIBU to just want one week off from her coming round?

If you get on with your mum otherwise I’d say this was fairly normal.

Could you perhaps not answer the door under the guise of "Sorry we missed you, we were both taking a nap/at the shops/in the bath"?

Sorry mil
Can you just smile and nod.

OhHolyJesus · 10/12/2017 20:42

Be at pretend baby classes as 'DS needs stimulation' every time she says she's coming round.

Just say your busy I don't understand what the issue is

I think be honest and tell her it is upsetting you. Tell her you hear what she is saying but it doesn’t work for you and you are going to keep doing things as you are doing. This can be said calmly and non confrontationaly.
You nip it in the bud now if she will carry on through out their life

I think you have to talk to her about this. Tell her that her constant criticisms are upsetting and hurtful. Otherwise you'll just fester with resentment.

If you talk to her and it doesn't go well, then you know where you are with her, don't you?
