Black mucus from nose??

My husband has woken me up in a total panic because for the past hour his nose has suddenly been pouring mucus. This was accompanied by a fierce tingling sensation. There was red tinged tissue in the toilet bowl from him but most recently black "stuff" on the tissues he blew into.

I think some kind of foreign body has maybe caused it but he was totally freaking out. He let me sleep for over an hour but then became panicked and woke me up.

Has anyone ever known anyone to experience similar?

Black discharge generally means old blood. You could be right about a foreign body- I'd go to the Out Of Hours tomorrow, or the GP on Monday. I doubt it's anything very serious though.

This article lists a few differant causes, have a read and see if any sound like they relate to his situation.

Black is old blood . It's just a nosebleed , tell him to go back to sleep and stop worrying

I nearly died because of a nose bleed.

How long has it been bleeding? If it's more than 30 minutes, call 111.

Have no idea what it was! The black stuff smelled odd which again made me think foreign body.

It was all going on for more than an hour and he was in a lot of pain. He did steam inhalation and after that the black stuff came out and it eased.

He always has problems with his sinuses so not sure if it's related to that.

Still sore and tingling this morning.
