In a queue for the next available operator

but they called me!

It's the bank's fraud department - I've had a dodgy transaction on my credit card. They spotted it sent me a text asking me to confirm or deny 3 transactions . Two of them were me, one wasn't, so I replied with "N" as requested and they'd said they'd call, which they just have.

Initially it was an automated message asking me to confirm my name etc, then I was "put through" to the first available operator. I've been waiting c. 20 mins.

AIBU to think this is very off, when they called me? It's not like I picked time that was inconvenient/busy for them!

Have you googled the number? I just read an article in the guardian about students being scammed, it sounded v similar to this...

MyBrilliantDisguise · 09/12/2017 13:26

Yes, check the number. That was a really worrying article about fraud.

yawning801 · 09/12/2017 13:27

Definitely check the number.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/12/2017 13:30

Shock I'd never heard of that scam before - thanks for the heads up!

Council · 09/12/2017 13:30

Yes, it's definitely them

Which bank?
I am having a nightmare with NatWest today.

UnimaginativeUser · 09/12/2017 13:34

Unfortunately checking the number doesn't help as there is some very cheap software available which allows you to display whatever number you'd like to show. MN are doing a lot of publicity for Take Five action fraud - it's well worth a read.

But OP, yes, it does seem a bit ridiculous that they've asked to call you and then can't take the call!

PotterGrangerWeasley · 09/12/2017 13:36

We had this and it was genuine, it was a huge number of people affected so took a while to get through but they sorted it really quick.

GrockleBocs · 09/12/2017 13:36

TalkTalk were doing this to me when saying they would phone me about their huge error. It was infuriating.

Council · 09/12/2017 13:57

It was NatWest Top and they were very helpful and efficient when I finally got through.
