To ask for a little hand hold

I had my 12 week scan on Tues, all was well. On Thursday I coughed getting out of the shower, passed a big clot and started bleeding.

A further scan revealed a wriggly baby and heartbeat so I was sent on my merry way. And yet... I’m still bleeding. And cramping. I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks earlier this year and remember the pain very well. I don’t want to go through that pain ever again.

I feel trapped and utterly useless. And I don’t really know what to do. Go back to EGU on Mon? Continue to sit tight? I have a 3 yo DS who’s desperate for my attention but I feel I have nothing to give.

Hand hold here Flowers

What an awfully worrying time. I would definitely go back to the EPU on Monday.

Minniemountain · 09/12/2017 12:11

Go back. You need to know what's happening.
Another hand hold Flowers

PrincessPeach08 · 09/12/2017 12:11

Sorry to hear you have had such an awful time of it. I'd ring your local maternity unit and explain your still bleeding and cramping, I'd be very surprised if they didn't tell you to come back in to be checked again. When a friend bled heavily during her pregnancy it was down to a burst cyst, however this showed up on a scan, did they give you any explanation for the bleeding before sending you away? Hope everything turns out well for you

lookingforthecorkscrew · 09/12/2017 12:14

No explanation for the bleeding was given. They had a look but said they couldn’t see anything. None of the EGUs are open until Monday now. At best I’ll just be left to bleed on a trolley in a corner somewhere, at worst I’ll be left sitting on a hard chair on a corridor for hours.

OP posts:
lookingforthecorkscrew · 09/12/2017 12:17

Because I’m under 14 weeks I can’t be seen by the maternity care unit.

Handhold. Unfortunately at this stage of pregnancy nothing can be done if you are going to miscarry. I guess the best thing that you can do (as hard as it is) is to try your best to carry on as normal and hope it stops, then call early pregnancy unit on Monday if it hasn't.
It's so hard not knowing. I had a massive bleed at 18 weeks, but epu wouldn't scan because I was too far gone and maternity wouldn't scan as I wasn't far gone enough.
I had to wait another two anda half weeks until my 20 week scan to find out if I still had a viable baby and it was bloody awful.
Fingers crossed for you.

WhyamIBoredathome · 09/12/2017 12:58

Oh, if it gives any hope, my massive bleed baby was absolutely fine, they said the bleed was just one of those random things.

Birdsgottafly · 09/12/2017 13:01

The cramping is the worrying part, definitely get into contact with the EPU.

I've had friends and relatives who've bled through their pregnancies.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 09/12/2017 13:03

The cramping is manageable. I’ve basically been told only to go back to hospital if I’m writhing in agony or soaking through maternity pads. I’m not doing either of those things atm so I’m just trapped in this awful limbo.

OP posts:
lookingforthecorkscrew · 09/12/2017 13:25

It’s an awful thing to say, but if the baby is too young to be saved you’re pretty much left to your own devices, not matter how traumatic that might be.

Happened to me and I bled for six weeks. It was a clot that released slowly so I was worried for ages but baby born when due and was fine!

TheWhyteRoseShallRiseAgain · 09/12/2017 13:30

Handhold here corkscrew I miscarried twins at 14 weeks then with dd2 had a bleed and clot at 8 weeks and scan showed happy baby, then massive bleed clot and cramps at 9, was taken through a&e to epu and reluctantly scanned again and baby was fine. I was put on 75mg aspirin daily and rest (also blood pressure meds but that’s from previous high risk pregnancies). I was extremely anxious throughout but dd2 arrived on her due date.

lollipop7 · 09/12/2017 13:36

Another hand hold.

I've been there at eight weeks with my first child. He's now three and half.
The bleeding was never fully understood. They thought either a failed multiple pregnancy or a fibroid but never sure. I had three episodes of it and the last one at 24 weeks

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it is not what you fear. When did you have the last scan?
I would call them up again and ask to be seen as you are very worried

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 09/12/2017 13:45

Another hand hold. I'm so sorry you're going through this Flowers

I had a bleed with dc2 which was terrifying. We still have no idea why or what it was. But he is all fine. hope the positive stories help Flowers

Is there anyone who can come round and entertain little one for a bit to give you some headspace? Or just some company for you

Take care and get back there on Monday

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 10/12/2017 12:35

How are things @lookingforthecorkscrew ?

lookingforthecorkscrew · 10/12/2017 16:33

Hello. Well the bleeding has slowed a bit, it’s like the last day of a period. So less alarming but still sub optimal.

OP posts:
lookingforthecorkscrew · 11/12/2017 11:43

Am at EGU today awaiting another scan. 13+1 today. Hoping the bleeding stops soon.

Good luck op.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 12/12/2017 10:05

This happened to me with DD2. I bled on and off for weeks- an explanation was never found but she was fine. I hope it’s the same for you. Good luck OP.

lookingforthecorkscrew · 12/12/2017 17:41

Forgot to update! Went to my hospital yesterday and the dr found a hematoma behind my placenta, he thinks it's mostly passed now. Baby is fine and was wriggling away on the screen! Grin

Great news! I had a huge bleed at 11 weeks. All was fine but a stressful time. Best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

StefMay · 12/12/2017 21:04

Great news, OP ❤

theimportanceofbeinghappy · 12/12/2017 22:19
