Lighthearted, I can get my own mail!

Firstly I was a bit miffed by this but I'm not falling out with anyone over it, I just wondered how common this is and wibu to feel a little peeved at first!

It's my birthday soon and the postman just delivered what I presume to be two birthday cards. The front of both reads as follows (names changed obv):

To Sally
C/o Adam Smith
Address

Now we are married, both names on the mortgage and both independant adults. Why on earth is it necessary to include DH's name? Why not just Sally Smith?

In all my years of sending cards I have never done anything like that! Even birthday cards addressed to children never had c/o DP on them. Is this a relatively new/traditional thing I have never heard of?

This has happened to me, on enquiring it transpired that the intention was that my DP would keep the card aside until my birthday so they were a surprise/not to be opened earlier.
Not to get your hopes up, but it was because it contained a "paper gift" they didn't want me to receive until my birthday.

Ah ok that makes sense.

Just a shame DH is never home when the postman arrives! And I'm always home first when I'm not on annual leave so I would always get to it first.

Plus the brightly coloured envelopes let on that it's most likely birthday cards which will wait until the day!

DP works from home and is in to collect post - so maybe not the case for you after all.
Fingers crossed for you that it's because it's something exciting and lovely!

I would assume the same as tendergreen. Otherwise it's very odd!
