As far as I can see it there are three schools of thought on this one:

Mixed peel is the work of the devil and panettone is dry sponge cake, no-one should open it

With the candied peel it's not dry at all and goes absolutely great with a cuppa tea!! Op-en, op-en, op-en!

I'll join you in the latter camp! Only if it comes with lots of real butter and a cuppa. I have resisted the temptation by not actually buying one yet following the mini stollen incident if 2014 (and 2015......and 2016). I had to replace the replacements several times over😂

Depends on which brand of panettone you buy. They are definitely not all the same. I opened a prosecco panettone last week, and we finished it in a couple of days, it was not dry at all.

An employee always bought us one for Christmas. I would make a bread and butter pudding around Easter time.

She has left so I now have to buy my own, to sit in the conservatory for months...................

I bought one from Lidl (still in date) with lemon in it.
I don't like butter so it'll be lemon curd on mine ........but not yet

I have two of them stashed away on top of the fridge, but I'm not allowing my lot loose on them until Christmas week, or they'll be gone in minutes.

Dh and dd (16 months) have already eaten two of them. Personally i dont get them. We on our third packet of minch pies. Eat by date 16 dec who makes minch pies that have to be eaten before xmas

I’ve already eaten a stollen and 12 mince pies . I am 8 months pregnant and absolutely ravenous though. I’m counting the Christmas treats as one of the (few) perks of a New Years baby.

Makes teh best bread and butter pudding... if it survives that long!

I buy the Asda chic chip one, £3 each. I'm doing chocolate and apricot bread and butter pudding (I don't add butter as it's buttery enough) for 30 teens* on Sat night with it. I also add some finely chopped (and soaked) apricots to it).

• our church youth club Christmas party night (I landed the hot pudding this year and have four of these pannetones on my dining table awaiting being made on Saturday morning).

Right I've agreed with DH that we can open it at the weekend. Sadly this means I'll have to share. tofthe I hear you, I cannot believe how much I'm putting away at the moment! Tis the season at least.
