To let 5 year old DS go swimming with a cough?

I would but I swim all through the winter anyway no matter how i feel.

I wouldn't. It's not safe especially if he's not 100% feeling well.

I would if its not too bad. The steamy atmosphere might help. Does he want to go?

Bit of a cough but otherwise functioning normally - yes.

Chesty cough, temperature or complaining of feeling unwell - no.

I would unless they had asthma, or a cold / fever too.

I would (and did on Sunday) most kids seem to have some sort of cough or sniffle just now.
If they seem fine enough and are well enough for school then they are well enough for swimming
