I've been 'black listed' by courier company

Took delivery of item (Boden)from local courier company on Saturday ( who are subcontracted by several companies - Next, Boden The White Company , Lakeland to name a few)
Whilst delivering package, the courier. ( a young lad of about 18) pulled our gate( of only 4months) off it's hinges ... my husband witnessed this, but courier denies any wrong doing
We phoned courier company to complain about damage and to see if they would repair damage, owner talked over my husband denying that they could have been at fault and being very dismissive of whole episode
We then contacted the the main courier company , (MyHermes) with whom we have no problems with and they have escalated the complaint ...so still awaiting final response
However in meantime I was expecting another delivery ( from Next- next day delivery) which I had placed on Saturday....saw (part)delivery was due for yesterday but had still not been delivered by 8pm....no worries had another delivery due today so assumed they would deliver them together
Saw van pull up outside my house at 10.30am, so went downstairs to get delivery, only to see the van drive off, no attempt to deliver/ no note left....I waited a couple of hours to see if they might try again and saw van drive in opposite direction through village...again didn't stop
I then phoned local courier company who says because of dispute we have they are no longer willing to deliver to us and order has gone back to Next depot!,
I'm practically housebound currently due to chronic illness and undergoing chemotherapy so can easily nip into town' as I am immunocompromised....can't believe the attitude of local courier company when all we wanted was for them to admit they'd damaged gate and repair it
I still don't have my goods and am expecting further deliveries in next few days, yet doesn't seem like my local courier company is going to deliver , despite me having paid for these goods and express delivery

  • need some of them to send abroad for Christmas ...can't afford to buy them again 'in town' in meantime, and don't see why I should

God, that's awful! I can well believe it - Hermes claimed our house was "inaccessible" - it's not at all Hmm

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 28/11/2017 16:34

Massive name and shame on social media to all and sundry. Tell them you'll take it to the local press if they don't deal with this in the next 48hrs. And yes, I'm quite serious.

Hermes are a bloody nightmare and I refuse to use any company I know will send their products out using them.

Bananamanfan · 28/11/2017 16:34

That is really shitty customer service, op. Facebook & twitter may be a good option. Contectcthe companies you have bought with too.

Bluntness100 · 28/11/2017 16:34

Gosh, I didn’t know they did that but I guess it’s their business their decision as long as they inform the contract holder there are certain properties they will do this to and why.

As for the gate, how did he manage to pull it off it’s hinges? Was it maybe not installed right? Pulling a gate off it’s hinges is not an easy thing to do.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 28/11/2017 16:35

Pulled your gate off its hinges? How on earth did he manage that, he must have used some amount of force.
I would imagine you'll need to raise the issue either have company you have ordered with as your contract is with them rather than my Hermes.

LexieLulu · 28/11/2017 16:38

I find complaining via social media (twitter/FB) gets results faster.

C&P link to this thread and send to on twitter to Hermes xx

Bluntness100 · 28/11/2017 16:43

I’m not sure linking to this thread is a good idea. I don’t know how it will help.

The issue here is sadly some people will try to defraud companies and say they caused damage they didn’t in an attempt to get them to pay, the other sad fact is some companies will deny damaging property as a way of getting out of paying.

I think the key point is how he pulled it off it’s hinges and subsequently damaged it also, he must have been at it for ages to do so,,. Gates don’t just come off easily.

LexieLulu · 28/11/2017 16:44

I only suggesting linking thread as to explain on limited characters on twitter may be hard

StewPots · 28/11/2017 16:45

That's awful! Agree with PPs, name and shame as much as you can and possibly even contact the local press as they may find this a worthwhile story.

I hope you get it sorted OP.

Stopyourhavering · 28/11/2017 16:46

Have already complained to Hermes...and been in touch with Boden and Next ( who have been great and have also escalated the matter internally and will be in touch with My Hermes)
I'm hoping the local courier company is removed from our round....we used to have lovely little lady who delivered for My Hermes until 10days ago...think she's been taken over by this new local 'cowboy' firm...Next have assured me they'll get another driver
Unfortunately I live in a very rural area so can't buy these goods locally, hence why I've been buying online...also this courier company also own one of the few taxi companies in area...guess I'll have to look elsewhere for transport...it's just their whole attitude that stinks , so much for customer being number 1

I think you need to contact whoever installed your gate tbh. That's shoddy workmanship.

Creambun2 · 28/11/2017 16:47

Any need to mention it was Boden or is that just a stealth boast?

Stopyourhavering · 28/11/2017 16:49

creambun Grin I had 30% discount code and it was 1 item!

OP posts:
Givemeallthechocolate · 28/11/2017 16:52

Not surprised to hear it's hermes!
Not at all! For example they delivered to a neighbours house, and put a note through my door saying they'd delivered to my neighbour --- at my door number because I was out. They didn't knock on my door or ring my bell.

DPD are no better either- one of their drivers delivered my husbands Samsung galaxy s8+ to an address 15 miles away, but went to my neighbours house and took a photo of their house from outside.

Absolute pisstake that was, they never admitted liability despite the fact they said his location wasn't even in the town I live in when it was signed for. I hope he lost his job. It was so obviously foul play.

Creambun2 · 28/11/2017 16:53

Maybe boden were pissed off at the discount!

Viviennemary · 28/11/2017 16:53

I'm very sorry about your health problems. But the courier company won't know about them. Unless this delivery lad was the hulk I don't see how he could break a sturdy gate unless it was done deliberately.

And I don't think it is reasonable to ask them to pay for a gate repair. And I agree with the poster who says a number of people are always trying to claim damage for this that or the other so in a way I can see why the courier company is now refusing to deliver.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 28/11/2017 16:56

Hermes are completely and utterly useless - I do wonder sometimes how they manage to still be in business. Their twitter page is just a massive list of complaints.

Bluntness100 · 28/11/2017 16:56

I’d also look at who installed it four months ago.

There are two options here.

Either this was already damaged and just pulled off and that’s down to the installer
Or this courier was out there with his tools pulling your gate off and you should have called the police.

I suspect this is where the disagreement is coming with the courier.

To get mine off would need a lot more than brute force.

Chunkymonkey123 · 28/11/2017 16:58

If a vehicle has damaged your property and not stopped then it is a criminal offence. I would ring 101 and get a crime number then at least you can claim on your insurance.
My dad had the police visit his house when he had knocked over a metal post, and he didn't stop because he hadn't realised. He was then sent a letter asking him to admit failing to stop and report an accident which carries 6 points and a £1000 fine.

Chunkymonkey123 · 28/11/2017 16:59

Ignore my post just seen he pulled it off by hand. Very strong man!

Viviennemary · 28/11/2017 17:14

When you say pulled the gate off what exactly do you mean. Do you mean out of the concrete. And if pulled off its hinges won't it just slot back in and it was faulty anyway. Don't think a well made gate could be damaged by a heavy handed delivery man unless he had a crowbar.

Needmoresleep · 28/11/2017 17:18

Post on Trust Pilot. Companies monitor it, and you may well get a prompt response. I have, on the two occasions I have used it for a complaint.

RainbowPastel · 28/11/2017 17:18

The gate must have been very poorly fitted to break with normal use.

MatildaTheCat · 28/11/2017 17:20

Boden a stealth post? FGS, OP didn’t complain about her net a porter delivery arriving 2 minutes late. This is a serious complaint and it’s widely known that some courier companies are totally incompetent and awful.

Why do people have to snip at every bloody remark that might just indicate that they are fortunate enough to not be eating potato peeling broth for dinner?

Allwashedup · 28/11/2017 17:23

Hermes are the worst and the new driver in our area is extremely rude and an outright liar...she is very unpleasant indeed. Will review on Trustpilot.
