To think a Doctor might actually examine my son properly and realise he's in respiratory distress?????

Took DS (just over 5 months) to doctors with bad cough...DS had gone off food and I was worried about dehydraion. Doctor tells me he's fine but is a little dehydrated. Poor little beggar isn't big to begin with so funny old thing I'm a little twitchy about weight. HV says get him on 3 meals a day now and this should help weight...OK. 2 weeks later still has cough and now has diaorrhea because of teething. AAHHGGG!

Take him back to doctor who says he's still fine...didn't even look at his chest!!!!!!
Travel to my parents for a week, while there the cough gets really bad again so I take him to parents doctor...examines him and says..dedede...CROUP!!! She was astonished that it hadn't been picked up sooner and prescribed steriods to help him breath as he was really struggling!! Get steriods (2 doses to be taken over next 12 hours), get home give one dose and lunch then put to bed for afternoon sleep. Get him up 2 hours later and theres a massive rash all over his neck and face and yes it was the bad kind of rash (non-blanching)!First thought was perhaps allergic reaction but didn't really look like that so bundled DS in car and went back to doctor. She took one look at him and said she didn't think it was meningitis but would prefer a peadatrician(sp)to see him so sent me stright to hospital. Kept in overnight for observation and bloods taken. Not meningitis, definarely croup, with rash coming frmo the croup cough. Hospital said shouldn't have come to this if treated sooner by original doc!!!!!
Now home and going to see said doc tomorrow as have to arrange follow up. What should I say?????

I totally agree with why you are so mad, so many doctors think that parents are being over the top when there children are unwell, but they forget it's us who knows them best!! the fact that he didn't check his chest the 2nd time round is disgusting, I would tell him exactly what the hospital said!

I would definately mention that the other doctor said it "should have been picked up sooner"

We had a similar experience once, went to see the Dr in the day as DC had a temperature and breathing difficulties & got the usual "plenty of fluids & calpol" crap

Spent another 6 hours listening to him struggle for each breath then took him to hospital - they kept him in for A WEEK!!

I always mention it now if I feel the Dr is being a bit slack.
